Giant morgan dollar looking things, any value? anybody want them? lol

Anybody ever seen these before? There's a CD there to show size of them. They're maybe aluminum or something.

picture 1
picture 2

They're pretty cool commodities, the backs of them are plain. Pretty good looking.

Anybody know where they came from or should I just put them on ebay and let the wolves fight over them for $1? lol

If anybody remembers my first post about the large coin collection i inherited, i'm schedule july 7th to have them appraised at all american coin company in red lion so i'll let ya know how that goes =)

thanks guys.

You weren't kidding about those things being big. No idea where they came from, but the portrait design is rather interesting.

    Russ, NCNE
  • the one to the left has a "C" copyrite symbol to the left of the date and it's about 1/2" thick compared to the one on the right that's maybe 1/4" thick (just eyeballing)

They weigh about 5lbs each, i'd say.. pictures suck as usual.. they look like your normal looking morgan dollar

EDIT ok im crazy the thicker one is probably 1/4" the less is probably 1/8"+ or something ... proportional to a morgan dollar sorta

Hi Kylek.Wow those are huge! .I picked up a set of smaller ones at a gift shop about 20 years ago.Mine are about the size of a Cd.They look to be about the same material. As I recall They came as a Indian Head Cent (copper color) and A Morgan Dollar(mirrored silver color). They made neat coasters. They seem to be made out of cast aluminum as they are very lightweight.I think I paid $3-$4 each for mine back then. Its a good thing they didn't make them that size in real lifeimage.Payday woulda been a killer!

Wow...Maybe they were dinner plates at one time or another?image
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • the larger ones kinda reminds you of a dinner plate.. it sits a little lower in the middle so i could see the food staying on the thing but the other is flat image Since i've been alive they've just sat down on grandpa's bar with maybe a glass on one. Actually the one was always stacked on top of the other. My grandpa traveled alot to florida and texas so who knows where these came from.

Put them on eBay if you're that set on selling them. Put them under Morgan dollars. Of course, be VERY DEFINITIVE in your item description.image

If you're NOT DEFINITIVE, not only will potential customers want to hang you, but, FORUM MEMBERS will want to keelhaul you.image

  • LOL... no im sure i don't want these. I have a ton of stuff to remember my grandpa by. I knew him more of a b-24 WW2 kinda guy so that stuff i'll keep. They were going to get auctioned but after the first auction took place and we realized EVERYTHING was selling for $1 we ran back to the house and grabbed what we could. Estate auctions are jokes. I'm talking like original john deere tracker toys and stuff from the 1800's was being auctioned for a nickel. You could have rolled a new car through there and it woulda sold for $5.

  • sorry boys when i got to all american coin co. i called my brother and we decided to sell almost everything. Everything but the WW2 stuff and a some other things I remember my grandpa by like his presidents silver collection and stuff. The owner wants me to take those 2 large morgan things off ebay too and sell them to him lol. He said he's a member here and going to baltimore tonight for some 5 day show. Nice guy and 80% of book didn't sound bad to me. Took us about 2 hours but we got 'er done.

its nice to have some money for once =)

I still have a few of the nicer morgans and few of each coin just for fun though .. of course i still have every proof set 70-04 and there's still coins around.

Next is to take the box of foriegn coins to this guy he recommended I go to, who pays more than he does for foreigners..

Not really happy i sold everything, not really sad either. They were just kinda laying around, might as well let them fill some people's orders image
