If it's OK for others to advertise here- should we as well in threads?

I thought the whole premise of the US coin forum was a place we could all talk about coins without having to deal with these stupid ads.image mike

Well, it's their house, they can do whatever they want.

Actually, quite a few of us do advertise in the signature line (either web pages - such as mine, or eBay auctions, etc.).

I fail to see the big deal here. Slow coin day or what?

    hey Mike

it all really comes down to personal discipline. when the banner for Pinnacle was added, i noticed it and it'll probably take a few days/weeks before it fades to the periphery of my vision when the page opens. the same for all the sig lines which link to "For Sale" sites/pages/items. they seem to meet the approval of the majority so we need to just acept them and get on with the edifying coin forum topics.

Mike, here are a few considerations I hope you will keep in mind:

    1) You and the rest of us are free to ignore the ads (especially now that the one in question has been changed) if we don't want to look at them.

    2) The ads are paid for and I'm sure they aren't cheap.

    3) CU allows us to use this site at no charge. And, while the forums can serve to promote their companies (edited to add: and, in the case of paid advertising, increase their revenues), that doesn't take away from the benefits that many of us enjoy here.

That said, please don't remind me about #3 above, if I get upset about something. image

Ad blocking works as well (I no longer see the ad after install Symantec Client Security).
  • I'm using Mcafee firewall and I see no adds here

Mike, I disagree. The forum isn't here to help us avoid ads, except for ads within the threads themselves. I don't like ads, but they are a fact of life. I just ignore them or let my ad blocker deal with them.

Forgive me if I don't remember so good but wasn't it PCGS that wanted to keep this place free of ads so it did not corrupt the coin talk? I guess times have changed and it's now deemed okay to put ads in signatures( I even do this on occasion). I guess there is just too big of a membership here not to take advantage of it by those that advertise and PCGS. I guess if they can make money off of it so can I. So here's my offer- $50 a month gets your company logo and link to your web site in my signature lineimage. Of course if there is great demand the $50 fee will go up. mike image
  • Hmmmmm, I sort of like the little ads posted here. I get to follow the links and
see some really beautiful coins for sale.
