Topps has exclusive rights to Okafor AUTO's and Game Used

I just got an email from Topps stating that they have signed Emeka Okafor to one of those exclusive AUTO and jersy contracts. If his back holds up, this could be HUGE for Topps, especially if Okafor becomes the next Patrick Ewing. I know they also had a press conference about a Sebastian Telfair deal, but I'm not sure if it was an exclusive one or not. I'm sure Upper Deck will probably fire back with a Dwight Howard exclusive deal.

So far I think the only exclusive basketball rookie deals like this have been with LeBron and Darko by Upper Deck and Mike Dunleavy Jr. with Topps, looks like it might become a trend.

    too little too late, basketball will be a total waste this year, combine that with what the companies
    did to collectors this year, look for the basketball market to sink. No Kobe, no Lakers,no great rookies...
    it a good year to stay away! Nice move topps!

    At least with topps signing him you wont have to spend $500+ a pack to have a chance at a top draft pick auto....

    I think there is a few good rookies this year. They just aren't hyped as much as Lebron was. I think you should especially keep an eye on Okafor, Ben Gorden and Sebastian Telfair to show up. Maybe not early in the season while they adjust, but you will be seeing them in mid to late season

    I remember when they were saying Elton Brand would be the next MJ....watch the companies
    and beckett hype up these losers! I would stick to buying 04 basketball when and IF it ever
    softens up..heck even Bosh and Wade are better than the top picks in this draft. If the companies
    think they can just charge the same price for this years products then they will be disappointed.
    If you are smart you won't get caught up in this years basketball "craze"

    its nice to see topps get another RC for their exclusive autos/gu'd...look at what making hinrich an exclusive to topps has done...his cards do verry well in the market even though he wasnt on of the HUGE RC's this past year. Okafor will be a good sign for topps, and hopefully they dont try to use his auto's/gu'd as a crutch like UD did with brons..(how many bron sigs were made this year??..i lost track)

    Overall I usually perfer the topps autos over UD/Fleer..especually the bowman R&S autos and the pristine autos this year..verry classy and easily obtainable since your not shelling out a ton for the products....also like regular topps photo shoot autos....sweet concept for the past few years

    This years crop of rookies is bad enough, but following the Lebron/Carmelo/Wade/Bosh draft will make it seem even worse. Okafor will be a mediocre pro, and who can even name 5 other draft picks?

    Also, Topps puts their auto/GU cards in something like 1:156544909577690903 packs anyway, so the odds of pulling an Okafor auto are the same as Michael Moore voting for George Bush.

    I think Okafor will be great player, one that garners hobby attention for his first five years like a Tim Duncan or David Robinson, but is a little boring and gets overshadowed despite a Hall of Fame career. The major faults of guys like Elton Brand or Shawn Kemp wasn't their lack of skills, but instead their lack of heart and desire to be a champion. I don't doubt for a second that both Brand and Kemp have more natural ability than Karl Malone or Charles Barkley, but Malone and Barkley worked their butts off to improve their games and learn how to hit a mid range jumper as well as pound it inside.

    From everyrthing I hear Okafor has an outstanding work ethic both on and off the court, graduating with a 3.8 GPA in three years. He comes from strong family values and I think he'll be a star. It will be both good and bad that he will be the Bobcats star player, as he might have some frustrating points this season, but he should score pretty well and might be one of the top five to ten big men in the NBA right off the bat if his back holds up.

    That's very true...this draft is so weak that the top picks could easily drop to the 5-8 position.

    Yea that does suck...the best RC's are always SPX....no signed spectrums will stink.....have to settle for topps junk......
