57 and 67 topps bb are very similiar in their simplicity and arguably the nicest post 1956 topps issues. i'm thinking of tackling a graded 67 topps set after my current projects are complete.
I think 1986 topps bares a greater resemblance to 1964 topps exclusively... as does 83 topps with 63 topps......
obviously the most similar cards every produced are 55 and 56 topps..and if u notice the player selection in both those years is really dramatic....almost like you need BOTH sets to get everybody.
a 55 feller... a 55 campanella....a 55 robin roberts....a 55 richie ashburn....a 55 MANTLE!!! is there a 55 Ford??? not sure....there would have been ALOT of nice 55 cards...instead you have to go to 56 to get them...sorry
its the main reason why i dont collect 55 topps.....many big name HOF'ers are missing
i have from the set:
ed mathews sgc 4 (again- last time I buy raw- missed a small crease) ernie banks sgc 5.5 (should be a 6!) hank aaron (sgc 3 - heehe...last time I buy raw!!! really rounded corners i didnt see on scan) ted williams (bvg 5.5- should be a 6 with subgrades 9,5,7,7-corners could have squeezed a 5.5- I got freakin psa 7's from 56 and 57 topps with worth corners then this...a truely stunning 5.5 if there ever was one..Id have busted it to resubmit if the holder wasnt beckett...too nervous ill damage the card- i wonder if beckett would bust it for me LOL) jackie jensen (psa 6- super nice 6...could be an 8) bill skowron (awesome 7....its an 8 on a good grader day) sandy koufax (stain on the back makes it a 6..otherwise a perfectly centered 7)
i can only think of a few more cards i want from the set- yogi, clemente, duke snider, gil hodges, jackie robinson and willie mays. Thats about all I can see worth it...oh...and don mossi...just cause he is so damn funny looken
