Want Lists

How many here maintain a want list with their favorite dealer or several dealers? I noticed this morning while browsing thru MyCollection at the Heritage site that many of my coins were on quite a few folks' want lists at Heritage. Is this a sign that the future for the collectible coin market looks healthy? Anyone having success or difficulty in getting their want lists filled?
Personally I don't maintain a list.

I use the want lists. So far with Heritage, I've looked at a few hundred matches and bought 0 of them. Just because they have a date/grade match doesn't mean the coin is a match for my collection. I have picked up a couple of want list items from David Lawrence though.

I also use Heritage's Want List Program, however, by the time I get the email , the coin(s) are always sold. David Lawrence also has my want list, and I've had better luck with them. Win Callender has called me when something I need becomes available. Another dealer, JJ Teaparty also has my want list, and Liz and Gail have been very helpful.

It seems that when you are down to a few coins needed to complete a set, you need all the help you can get, otherwise you'd never be able to locate these coins.

Recently, the most help I've received has been from fellow Forum members. Quite a few of them give me a "head's up" when they see something I need.

So is an extensive wantlist indicative of at least a decent market for the future?

My problem's rather the opposite -- my "wants" are sufficiently esoteric that no dealer has anything I need.
  • Want lists can be an invitation to be over charged for a coin. Many moons ago I submitted my want list to a national dealer and as the list was "filled" I noticed the prices were always 15-30% higher than non want list dealers. I switched dealers but same problem.

I came to the conclusion a want list is a beacon for those wanting to overpay for coins.
