Pinnacle is like X-10. I'll never buy from them.

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
Remember all those X-10 popups? I swore I'd never buy anything from them for their intrusion into my face.

Same with Pinnacle. At home I have broadband, so I didn't notice. At work, I have dial-up, and there is a significant slowdown now. Pinnacle, you haven't made any friends here with your recent splash. Take heed of all the negative comments and do the right thing.

You are proposing to turn away a sponsor of this site. Why hurt PCGS?

I have blocked 3033 pop ups since installing my Google Toolbar, not one pop up has gone through...image As for the banner, eh, no big deal.

Well, if you do NOT buy from Pinnacle, you'll be missing the opportunity to buy some very nice coins....your choice??? I'll buy from anyone at anytime if they have nice coins at good prices.

I'm scratching my head a bit, why is everyone blaming Pinnacle for this banner? It's not their website, obviously the marketing folks at PCGS made the decision to put it here along with Pinnacle. I guess logic gets checked at the door when you click on here.

If you run a business isn't it you who decides what advertising you will allow and how its presented?
  • It doesn't bother me.
These websites are expensive to maintain and keep up.
You have to find ways to help keep the costs manageble.

How childish to say your not going to buy from Pinnacle over a dumb banner ad. I don't not get some people. Your loss, they are a truly terrific company to deal with. More coins for me.

    Barry,

While I agree with the spirit of your post, I think that you are being a bit severe with your decision. When the folks at Pinnacle find out how disturbing the banner ad is, I guarantee it will be pulled or modified. They are nice people and would not (purposely) do anything to hurt their reputation or aggravate collectors, be they clients or not.

  • Does one banner lead to a second banner for someone else? That's what bugs me about it. Of course if it said Williams Gallery, then I wouldn't care. I put duck tape over it so I couldn't se it! Jerry

It's not Pinnacle's fault you work in a cave for a stone age company.

Not wanting to further stir the pot (yeah, right), but PCGS should bear some responsibility for allowing the seizure-provoking banner.

I think he lost his marbles quite some time ago, MANOFCOINS...probably sometime around January 2003. That tends to happen when you join the boardsimage

I must have just the right combination of technology as I not only don't see an ad banner - but I don't get any pop-ups.

Pinnacle is my favorite dealer, but I do find the movement annoying. I will shot them an email and see what they think. Regardless, I will continue to do business with the company as they are first rate all the way.

In retrospect, I probably overreacted a bit. I apologize to those I offended.

Russ - regarding the cave, it's my cave, and in my cave we don't have a need for speedy Internet access. The only online stuff we do is submit insurance claims, which is all text-based uploads and downloads. The Internet access is strictly for my entertainment during a break or lunch time.

On a final note, can anyone recommend software to block the banners (pop-ups are already blocked via Eathlink's pop-up blocker)?

I've also overreacted myself on occasion. However, you might want to edit the title of this thread to reflect your regret.

    The ad is static now.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
