The law of supply and demand - ah, world coins

I love world coins - where else can you get rare or relatively rare coins for such prices. For example:
This is an East Caribbean 1958 1/2 cent - Mintage - 200,cost about $2.50
imageimage

And this 1949 Kingdome of Jordan, mintage 3,300 - cost, another $2.50
imageimage

I know those are not "pristine coins" but how many on this forum have one of those East Caribbean 1/2 cents?
Also here is a PR66, 1/2 Balboa from Panama - Mintage - 13,000 - cost - $12.50

Try to imagine what coins of these mintages and condition would cost on the lightside.

Bargains abound on the darkside. In many cases this is likely to always be the case so
will always provide an attraction to the road less traveled.

What especially attracts me are the many types of bargains whether they are historic,
artistic, metallic, old, new, condition rarities, or just the old fashioned rarities. Makes no
difference really and provides a smorgasboard for the collector.

Turns out my other one was a 1955 (500k vs. 200k mintage). I had the complete circ set and didn't even realize it! imageimage

Such sweetness of world coins....you can just smell them!
  • Sorry Shep, those mintages have a decimal point in them: .200 = 200,000 and 3.300 = 3,300,000.
Still, when compared to U.S. coins they are a heckuva bargain! And a helluva lot more interesting!

Brad - That may be - but my 2003 Krause has them listed like this:
    1/2 cent KM#1 Composition: Bronze
    Date Mintage
    1955 500,000
    1955 proof 2,000
1958 200 - There is no decimal point in my book even when I checked using a loop. Maybe an error in Krause?
    1958 proof 20

    Your coins are incredible!!!

  • You're right, the 200 is missing the decimal point in front of it and the Jordan piece's mintage has a comma instead of a decimal point as in the other editions. Add 2 more typos to the LONG list from the infamous 2003 edition!

Regardless of what the real mintage is, I've never seen an E.C. half cent! Neat!

Neat finds. I seem to be getting hooked on British Conder Tokens. I just placed an order for three EF-AU Halfpenny tokens that look very nice based on the scans and only paid $32-$47 each! These are over 200 years old, superb works of art and each cost less than dinner with the wife! Gotta love the Darkside!image

I just saw an album full of choice conder tokens last week. So many of them are incredibly detailed pieces of work. I can see what farthing sees in them now.

The coin dealer in California I mentioned in my thread collects them. He showed them to me while I was going through his British coin boxes. They are amazing pieces, many with traces of lustre. The one that caught my eye was a rendition of Norwich castle (20 miles from Great Yarmouth, where I lived). Most I saw were in choice UNC condition. He's not selling any of them. Like many dealers, he likes collecting too much!!

The dealer is one of the nicest people I've met in the business.

Farthing, that is one I almost placed an order for tonight! Something else caught my eye and I did not, but it is also high on my list.
