It was PCGS' mistake to...

...turn the Registry into a competition! After a week ( and many other occasions) of all this whining, I have
to speak up. It was a great idea to establish it so we could all display our sets, but an error to turn it into
"mano-a-mano". STOP CRYING ABOUT SNIPING!!!! If I had deep pockets, and could buy myself into the
game in the 11th hour, so be it; those are rules.

Does it lessen the achievement....yes (for me)

Does it lessen the satisfaction...yes again

We all have our reason; mine was to show people my Franklin collection.

BTW, for all of this technology, I, for one, am disappointed that many folks don't have images up for their
sets. I would like to look at them all as I enjoy looking at nice coins.

    Well said flykite.

To some it's a fun competition. To others it's life itself.

I wonder how many set owners had to drink to relax last night to avoid worrying about their position as of today. imageimage

Competition is never a mistake. It and freedom are the foundation upon which all greatness is built; be it commerce, athletics or any other of life's pursuits. The mistake is that of a few competitors believing they are somehow entitled to win simply because they entered the race sooner.

You have GOT to be kidding! Spare me the psychobabble, or the commercial, or....whatever; not all pursuits
    are competitively based.

True. But, the registry is. Get it?

  • I do it for fun, none of my sets will win anything,
but it seems some do it for business purposes.
I suspect if you have the #1 set, you can then sell it for a bit extra premium afterwards.
I doubt the #1 set(s) will be there too long as someone is probably already getting them ready to be sold.

So I guess it would upset the person who suddenly got bumped in the 11th hour.

What is it with the locked sets and no images, is there some reason the high ranking sets are kept secret?
I as one of the unwashed masses would like to see images of these MS69 MS70 coins of which no one has better.
I've got to have something to drool over with envy.

  • The secret is build the best set you can; If someone else is able to build a better set. More power to them !!!

Collect the coin, not the slab !!!
  • On the good side, in the IKE Proofs category, it looks like a couple of people didn't get their sets in
    before the deadline.

But wow! It does explain where the MS69+ coins went though.
I sure wish they had coin pictures though.

How boaring life would be if everyone and everything was equal.

Every coin would be MS 70 or PR 70

Everyone would earn the same wages.

Everyone would live in a house that looked exactly like the one next door.

Everyone would have the same vehicle.

I have the current 5th Mercury Dime set. I know I will NEVER be able to have the number one Mercury Dime set, yet I am very happy to have the set I own and that in itself makes me a winner!

The rules haven't changed; they have been the same as long as I have been in the registry.

My congratulations to all the winners!

I look at the #1 Morgan Registry Set as a goal. It may never be achieved by me, but it is fun to look for better and better (and more spectacular) coins. I have some coins that I have that are not in any of my Registry Sets. There are just some coins that become part of you and I love to look at them and study them. I like the whole concept of the Registry Set program and I look forward to progressing up the ladder.

I'm relatively new here. Michael Dixon suggested I join the forum a few months ago so I did. I have been able to learn a lot from you people here but I also have learned that some members are extremely argumentative and critical. Is that what these forums are for?

I think everyone needs to reflect on why they collect/acquire their coins. Some of us do it for the pure satisfaction and enjoyment of numismatics... the history, the art, the beauty of coinage.

Still some of us do it as a pursuit...a hunt for the best...a search for the Grail...and feed on the challenge, the respect, and the attention that assembling a high ranked set provides us.

Then of course there are others who do it for both sets of reasons or a mixture thereof.

Whatever your impetus for collecting/acquiring your coins, it should be for your personal satisfaction...not to interfere or dampen the enjoyment of the hobby for others.

This is true, but understand that most of these people are "tops" in their field, stubborn to a flaw, and arguementitives are a part of the hobby (now).
It can be fun if you let it...
It can be excruciating, if you let it...

AH HA... Lucy has one of those rare double die jackets on. Notice the heavy doubling of the O, making it appear to read BOOP, When in fact we all know it should read BOP. I give it a proof D/cam with heavy frosting on the devices.

  • Do not worry what others are doing, you want to show your Franklin Set I will look, I am trying to complete one also. I am not trying to get the best grade but trying to obtain all FBL's and as nice as I can get. Some love toned coins / I like white coins.
