I Received my Krause 2005 World Coin Book Today

WOW! I had never seen a Krause Coin Book until today. Now I see why it was so expensive....well not really...$38. I had no idea how intense it is.

I'll bet your unit's mail clerk was wondering why you ordered a phone book. Those things are pretty heavy. image
  • No kidding. That thing is huge. I could get rid of my SAPI (Small Arms Protective Insert) Plates in my vest and replace them with the book.

Does the '05 Krause include all of the 20th century as well as the first five years of this century? I guess it must if it's that heavy. When will the World Book begin with only the 21st century?

  • The 05 Krause is dated from 1901 to Present...so yes...it does include current coins.

It does cover a lot of ground and I guess even with the errors is a good value. I sort of wish they would only publish it every other year and get it right, but I guess we don't live in a perfect world.

  • Welcome,
Now you only need to purchase the other volumes pertaining to the older coins.

  • I'll get a new 1801-1900 when I get enough of those coins. I could have really used it when an Iraqi coin dealer at a bazar on our camp tried to sell me 7 VF coins for $120. I didn't feel they were worth that money, so I passed.

It might be worth $120 if they were gold coins.

  • No, they were all silver coins...or so the guy was saying. That is why I got the 1901-Present...to make myself smarter when I was dealing with dealers.

Good to have the catalog for reference.

Be very wary of street vendors though.
    Lots of counterfeits out there.

The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

I have a hunch that world coins are going to get a lot more popular in the
future both here and around the world. I suspect the demands of collectors
will result in a 1950 to date version which will last for many years.
