Two-Cent Forum

I have searched the web from end to end without finding a forum for collectors of Longacre's Two-Cent pieces. Are there others as myself who would enjoy discussing the history, variations, detail, grading, and pricing of this short copper series?

I don't think there are any forums specifically dedicated to the Two Cent Piece. It is a US Coin, though, and this is the US Coin forum.

Personally, I don't get what anybody sees in them.

    Welcome, 2c.com.

    Nice icon. image

I created it from a coin I used to own, which has since gone on to live with another forum member.

I've asked Rick Snow and Shylock to have a forum on the Fly-In Club's site for discussing Flyers and Indians but I wouldn't object to any Longacre coin being discussed/traded/sold/

I have been trying to bring interested souls in the two cent coin to coppercoins.com for years. I personally would be a big buff if I could afford them in quality grades. I don't collect anything below EF.

I have two '64's one NGC graded MS64BN and the other, well lets say the strike overall is double the MS64, has beautiful red still lasting, BUT, for some freaky reason the 'Trust' is very light, to the point it's hard to make out....wierd.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

    Welcome aboard.

There has been increasing talk about the two cent piece around here.

  • Many thanks to Lord Marcovan for creating such a beautiful, brilliant icon. When I learn the ins and outs of this board I will eventually create my own icon. In the meantime, while I continue to use it (if I may use it), I am indebted to him for his artistic abilities!

It seems to me, what with the "under God" under assault in the courts, that the "In God We Trust" will be next in line for the agitators. And here the motto begins! I do just love the beauty of the coin -- well, the obverse -- the reverse is nothing to get too excited about -- but the shield, the motto, I just wish the coin was bigger so I could see it more easily!

  • "In God We Trust" will be next in line for the agitators

To the contrary, it was the "agitators" who pressed for the inclusion of the Santa Claus motto. The first appeal seeking inclusion of the motto came from some nut who fretted the motto "would relieve us from the ignominy of heathenism. . . . To you first I address a subject that must be agitated." Link.

So the next time you use the word "agitator," or make any other comment, to disparage those opposed to the motto, best to first check your facts -- but why let those get in the way, right?

Here's a dumb question for all you 2-Cent fans. The expression "To give someone your 2 cents", does that have any origination at all dealing with this coin?

  • When the phrases like that first came out,
2 cents was a lot of money.

My understanding of the origin of "putting your two cents in" is that it's related to poker. It started out as "putting your two bits in" which was the ante for the hand. So in other words, putting in your two cents is like anteing up to get into the conversation.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Figures, I sell my set at a time when interested was low for Two Cents. Now that it's gone, collectors express interest.

It is a neat series. Short and sweet. In any color the 1872 is the expensive coin. Aside from that, you can assemble a very nice MS set in BN or RB for very little money.

Oh well... I still have very nice images I can drool over.
