Madison Ave. strikes again - what a way with words!

Flaws are the only thing keeping this little beauty from being perfect. Had to laugh at this one!

a NM allows for some corner wear.. the way he describes it actually sounds more along the lines of NM-MINT.. he says "the only thing preventing the card from being NM", so I would guess that makes the card EX-MT..

those corners look pretty raw to me; VG-EX at best I'd think. I don't mean to be rough; I just can't imagine using the term NM in conjunction with this card, except to say that it ain't.

but a VG-EX allows for a light crease and surface wear such as scratches or scuffs.. so its really dependent on how accurate this guy grades his cards.. I try to grade my raw stuff as accurately as possible when I sell, thats why I critique each "flaw" thats allowed..

that being said, we all know that the majority of sellers overgrade their stuff..

Saying ONLY the corner wear keeps this from being NM is like saying the only thing that prevents Marilyn Chambers from being a virgin is all the porn movies she did!

"Almost NM BV $1200" is laughable. I see raw cards auctioned with this kind of claim all the time. Is it possible there are still people who think NM is anything that's not ripped in half?

Marilyn Chambers made some great porn movies!..

But without seeing better scans of the card, you guys have to admit that if the guys description is truthful (no creases, edge, surface wear) that this card falls under the guidelines of EX at least.. and possibly EX-MT..

Thats IF the guys description is truthful.. because you cant see the surface in the scan..

But you can see the corners. I've been burned too often by giving the seller the benefit of the doubt. Cards rarely arrive looking better than they did in the scan.

i agree.. ive been burned by giving benefit of doubt also.. but a EX actually allows for rounded corners.. EX-MT allows for "frayed" corners..

I understand all that - but why promote the term NM in this auction, except with the hopes of getting some poor sap to think he's getting more than what's being offered? ergo, the reference to Madison Ave....

Mman - I hear what you're saying on the description. I tell you what though, I just looked at the auction and it's sitting at $58 with less than a day to go. The seller has 4k++ positive FB @ 99.9%.

SMR is $350 in Ex. I might just go after this one.

Stone - this could be the "Behind The Green Door" special of the week. But maybe not....a four way on a swing may be much more valuable. Adding, that I am embarrassed to know that. image

Harry - good luck. Someone's going to get this card, and I hope it turns out to be "almost NM". BTW, it's up to $61 now!

Mark - as you have pointed out - doubt it. Don't get me wrong - I think you were correct and accurate in your criticism of the listing. I was watching the thread but never clicked on the link until a while ago. My only point is that if it's even a VG or EX you could do OK if you can pick it up for under a c-note. Regards.

Which description of the corners does everyone see?

5 - very minor rounding of corners

    6 - slightly graduated fraying

4 - may be slightly rounded

I might say 5, but usually am 1 off when looking at scans.
I go for a 4 VG-EX, especially with the upper right corner, and maybe the lower right too.
But who knows, if the surface really is OK and the rest falls in line.

no way do I see it as a VG-EX if the guys description is truthful.. i see minor rounding of corners, but a VG-EX allows for a CREASE!

I think one of us needs to win this card, submit it to PSA, and lets see who is closer image

The cynic in me thinks if it was gradable, it would have been graded. A $10 investment in the grading fee would yield a much much higher selling price for a card like this. But heck, I suppose there's all sorts of reasons why it's being sold raw.

a grading fee + turnaround times, etc..

there are alot of people who dont think it beneficial to submit low-mid grade stuff.. i sell most of my vintage stuff raw, and unless its REALLY sharp, i dont bother sending it in.. otherwise, i just try to give an accurate "grade"..

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 2004 DONRUSS DAVID WELLS JERSEY CARD. THERE ARE NO CREASES, WRINKLES, BUBBLES OR BENDS. NO EDGE WEAR. NO SURFACE WEAR. CORNERS HAVE SOME SINGING BUT NOT EXCESSIVE.

THE FACT THAT THIS CARD IS ON FIRE IS THE ONLY THING PREVENTING THE CARD FROM BEING NM.

Yeah but the card sings so it has to be worth something.

lol.. it would have "considerable discoloration" on front and back from the flame, knocking it down to a PSA 2 GOOD..

BTW - As Aknot said, if David Wells is singing, its a good card, and Boomer is probably drunk..
