1898-o Morgan proof like

TONEDDOLLARSTONEDDOLLARS Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭✭
I have been trying for quite sometime to capture the mirrors of this coin. Most of my pictures make it look non proof like. I think I may have hit on something with this new picture. Do you like the difference?

That's a pretty coin. I like the first picture better, though it is overexposed just a tad. I'm partial to that type of peripheral toning.

That is, the peripheral golden toning. I see the center has a bluish color. Very nice.
  • I like the first picture also, nice coin. image

Nice coin louis, I bought mine raw in a kraft envolope along with two others, and it took Five submittals and a phone call to finally get it graded.
  • Were the others as nice ?

You're kidding me? PCGS bagged that four times?

TonedDollars: That's a very eye catching and nicely toned 1898-O which appears to be PL on the obverse. I am assuming that the reverse is not as reflective or the coin would have very likely graded MS-64 PL.. image

Stuart, The reverse is even more proof like. I bought that one along with a 1882-s that they did give the pl to and a 00-o that they have refused to this day to grade.

That's incredible. Unless I'm really missing something, that is NT all day long. Well, at least it finally did get in a holder.

Believe it or not, it took a phone call from an ex PCGS finalizer who saw the coin in its original envolope to help convince someone that it was okimage

TonedDollars: That's a very beautiful toned 1898-O that sure looks like a lock PL to me -- at least based on the obv photo... That's my kind of toned Morgan!!

Thanks very much for sharing her with us!!

Stuart, Thanks a bunch. I have owned this coin for a long time. It was one of the first toned dollars in my collection. I think it is the reason I started on this journey.
