What does it say on the reverse? Additionally, is the date below "Sept. 18 1920," "1888" or "1880?"

It's now edited to show the medal.

    Lets look at the clues:

    Sept 18-19-20, 1883
    Springfield Mass.
    Bikes
    Race
    A coin/token commemorating the event.

If you could print the writing on the outside circle of the coin and the caption of the picture it would help.

    1883.

Reverse is just arms of Springfield, MA with
    "Organized a town, May 14, 1656 O.S."
    and
    "A city May 25, 1852"
No reference on rev to the bike race.

It might be a political figure in or around Springfield, Massachussetts in 1883. I did search but couldn't find any pictures or names of mayor during that year. It might be a good start.

What bikingnut said....my other hobby is road biking and I've no clue what this medal is from. Nice interesting piece though. Maybe it was just a commemorative of that event, an event so "local" that there's not much broader significance to it? image
