graysheet Morgan gains

I looked at the graysheet and the 1895-o in EF is now worth more than the 1895-s. The 95-o is just not as tough as the 95-s in this grade... which seems strange. the 93-o has moved significantly in ef as well. The 1892-cc has moved to over $300 in ef which doesn't surprise me... I still think with the recent gains, the 1895-s seems undervalued in EF. Other key dates such as the 1903-s and even the 1896-s can't be too far behind.

The 95-S may well be undervalued in XF. Just try finding one that isn't worked over. Seems like there are plenty in mint state and well worn, but very few nice high grade circulated examples.

I can't believe the price increase on the 92-CC. The key dates seem to be skyrocketing.
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?

I thought this thread was a start for several matters that confront collectors... especially those that collect Morgans. Some dates are obviously rare and tough to get in MS, however, just because certain coins are either not affordable or readily available in MS, that should not deter a collector from pursuing their goal of completing the series. Perhaps the set may not be MS, but as we are finding out, there is no shame in completing a set that incorporates circulated coins that are quality for the grade.

Unfortunately, many of us do not have the $$$$$ to complete an MS set of Morgans, but that should not deter the search for finding lower grade examples that are attractive for the grade. Certain dates have increased in the Morgan series and others are bound to follow. If you think a certain date is overvalued in MS... it may be undervalued in another grade. Even though the bid and ask spread on an 1892-CC in MS63 is high, and some may say it is overvalued, it still may not be overvalued in EF, considering original examples of this date in this grade are not that common. I started this thread with comments about the 1895-s and my view that it is significantly tougher to get thn the 1895-o in EF. Obviously in UNC, THE 95-O is rare and substantially more difficult than the 95-s.

My point is seek the grade that seems to reflect the best value, and has collector interest. Considering the EF move of the 93-cc, 93-o, 94 and 95-o, I still think the 95-s represents value in ef. Even the 79-cc still does. In any event... keep looking and consider that some tough dates are much tougher in ef than you may think, but can still be purchased at a fair price.

The 79-cc 93-cc and 95-s are very tough to find in au53 to au58 in PCGS slabs; damn tough actually. nice coins in NGC slabs cross easily tho. When I first started a 93-s in anacs vg10 could be had for around $1000 which was a fair piece of change then. Now you won't even touch a 79-cc 93-cc 95-s or even a 03-s all in au53 for anything close to $1000

    1895-S going once

    1895-S going twice
