Upgrade or Sell and Buy to Fill Holes?? (Poll)

I have 3 coins that are all PCGS graded;

1864 IHC PCGS MS64RB
1883 Liberty Head Nickel No Cents MS64
1891-S Seated Quarter PCGS AU58

I could crack'em out and upgrade my Dansco Type Set OR

Sell them and purchase coins I need to fill holes in the set in lower grades. Most of the set is F-XF range with the moderns being all BU coins and some of the classics in AU.

I still need;

No Motto Liberty Seated Dollar (Fine)
1911 Gold --- various denoms (XF-AU)

Thanks
Michael

    Crackem, I used to be squeemish about doing that, but once I did and looked at how it looked in the Dansco album, it made me wish I'd done it way earlier.

    Crack it.
  • If they are generic coins and you're satisfied with the coins they'd replace I'd sell them and work on the types you're missing. With the exception of a few colorful toned coins, I prefer to stick to the planned grade range for my typeset (VF-XF). image

    Well this hasn't helped so far -- 7 say sell, 8 say crack'em

    Let's see if anyone else can add anything.

    I'm faced with the same decision. I have eleven to finish my set. I'm ready to get it done, so I'm going to settle for a few coins in grades less than my target minimum grade. I'll worry about upgrades later.

    I'm also seriously contemplating selling some coins in the $200-$700 range to get the one "expencive" one I lack. That one would be in the $2000-$4000 range.
