Why do ANR and Stack's get such killer consignments?

Reputation of the key people? Personal relationships with the collectors who own the coins? Better terms? A belief that they will realize the strongest prices?

For ANR, I believe it has to do with the quality people that run the organization. For Stacks, I think a lot of the old time collectors go there because it is what they know. Stacks has history. Most Stacks coins are not certified, many are extremely fresh and have not been on the market for 20-30 plus years.

I agree ANR because of the quality people, and Stacks because they built those consignment collections 30 to 40 years ago.
  • ANR has great people people and are very easy to do business with, lots of smiles.

Stacks is old school and many mature collectors who bought there, sell there. They sell almost exclusively raw which is part marketing and part of how they do business. I know of several dealers who crack out slabs and sell via Stacks in hopes of getting better pricing than given slab grade. Although many fresh coins are offered they do have their fair share of recylced coins hoping to get lost in the mix and excitement.
