Question RE: PSA/DNA Grading

I am putting together a HOF Autograph set and there are several raw, HOF Autographed cards available on Ebay right now. They have authenticated by PSA/DNA with a certificate. I am wondering if I bought these raw, since they have already authenticated, would I still have to pay the $20 to have them go through the whole process of getting slabbed or would I just pay the grading fee?

The items have to have the psa/dna sticker on them , if not then you must pay to have them recertified.

I have seen these autos, from Rotman for example, where they come with a PSA/DNA letter of authenticity saying they have examined the autograph in question and believe it to be authentic. But there is no reg. # and no sticker on the item. Or another kind of general letter states that PSA/DNA has inspected a group of items of which this (unspecified) item is part.

If they were inspected, why no sticker or number? Are these LOA's essentially worthless?

I've purchased some NFL HOF Mini-Helmets this way. The dealer had graded a dozen in (1) lot and received (1) PSA/DNA COA.

I believe each Mini-Helmet had the same PSA/DNA number and I was mailed a copy of the PSA/DNA COA - which imaged the (12) Mini-Helmets. Upon using the PSA/DNA certification PSA/DNA Cert Verification link, the number matched the PSA/DNA COA. If the item was properly PSA/DNA labeled without receiving a copy of the PSA/DNA COA, then it would work something like Tri-Star's on-line authentication.

The only issue I have with the old PSA/DNA label is that on uneven surfaces the label doesn't always rest flush against that surface - for example a baseball. Because the label wasn't completely adhering to the surface, it could easily be removed. So, without a PSA/DNA COA photo to compare against the signature, there could be an issue? However, I do not think the early PSA/DNA COAs even had the image on them to begin with.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the replies. My feeling is that I would still have to pay the $20 to have it certified and slabbed. I guess the one good thing is that it leaves out the question of whether or not the auto can be certified.
