Jefferson help

I recently read an ANA article on the full step niche with Jeffersons, and that there are no known full six steps. Now I swear I might have one, through all three pillar sections, and am wondering if any slabbing company recognizes or certifies these--- or is it just a subculture. Thanks.

I think that NGC requires six steps to get the FS on the holder??

  • There are plenty of 6 step Jeffersons. But there does exist dates where 6 step Jeffs are non-existant, or super rare.

edited to add: there are 4 pillars and steps are counted under each pillar. NGC now grades FS as 6 full steps. This is noted by Full Step collectors as 6-6-6-6 where each 6 is the steps counted under each pillar. I believe NGC also gives out 5 full step grades. Other grading companies actually do the step count.
  • CarlWohlforth... Thank you for reminding me about the pillars, I'm trying to sneak this in at work. (Wouldn't it be something if I had a three pillar nickel) Anyway, thanks for the info and I wish I was able to scan a picture in because this nickel is a stunner. At least it is the only nickel I have seen with the steps this clean. Uncirculated `87 P.
