Good article in Coinage about clad coins.

It's in the Aug, '04 issue which I just got today. It starts on page 76 and
is titled "'Cheap' Clads". It provides an interesting perspective on clads and
collecting them and was written by Al Doyle.

It does not provide much answer to the implied question of what's going to
happen when the mint sets are gone.

There are several great stories in this issue. Coinage is becoming a must read, especially for modern collectors.

Hmm, I'll have to check it out. I cherried some ikes and jfks last weekend. I think that two of the ikes will be sure 66s and all the jfks will be at least 66s.

  • No kidding -- cost less than $12 for a year's subscription, so I immediately signed up.

Edited: Heh -- I thought you were talking about the price of a subscription, not those crappy pseudo-silver coins.

Hey Cladking: do they have decent articles on old and modern gold?

In that issue, I enjoyed their recap of their initial issue in 1964, in which they talked about the mint's antagonism towards collectors. The story about how legislation was proposed to "ban" collecting is fascinating contrasted with the modern mint business plan which targets 10 billion different products towards collectors...
