Storing proofs.

I just opened a 64 proof set and the half has very strong cameo on both sides with no spots of any kind. How do I store it? (not in my safe image) Pics coming sometime but I lost my charger. image

  • a flip in a safe with a dehumidifying thing in it...cant think what it's called...dessicant? you know...the thing that soaks up moisture in the air.
  • THese are some pics. THe obv is pretty accurate but the reverse picks suck. Its got the cameo of one and the detail of another.

Appears to be an excellent example, but if the images are accurate it isn't a cameo. The fields don't have the necessary depth.

  • How would I measure the depth? This is my first time photographing proofs.

  • There's a "tool" for that...but I got no clue where the link would be or waht it's even called. You lay the coin against someting on edge, and then see how many of the graduated lines are visible in the field. If it's like a mirror and you can see the last line, I guess....

ah hell...someone will show you. image

You don't really "measure" it on these like is done with Morgans in PL and DPL. It's more of an eyeball thing. For cameo, the mirrors should be glassy with little or no interruption by mint frost. Look for smoothness and brilliance when compared to the devices. When twirling the coin under strong lighting there shouldn't be any, or very little, "cartwheel" effect as is seen on BU coins. Should just be reflectivity in all the quadrants.

  • Alright When I spin it the obv has no cartwheel or any kind. The reverse has a slight cartwheel affect to it but it may be the lights.

I love the frost in the fields.
