Regrade vs crackout (pcgs slabs only) question...

I bought a 1914 s half eagle indian a while back in supposedly ms62 condition. 3 out of 4 dealers I had look at it said it was at least unc. so I decided to keep it. I sent to PCGS on my "free" platinum member submission and it came back AU55. Sent back recently on free quarterly submission for obsolete denoms and it came back AU58. My question is this...if I send in for regrade in the slab I could at least keep my AU58 or get the guarantee pcgs has, right? I might get the grade ms something(62?) that I thought it should be. How can I lose? If I play crackout they could give an AU55 again, who knows. As I understand it PCGS will "crackitoutanyway" and let the graders take over without any knowledge of it's status. If it is same grade, great. If lower what happens? If higher or same, no problem. Can't lose to stick with regrade submission as I see it, except for fees and shipping, or am I missing something? With this particular coin it might be worth a few tries? Any help appreciated....Don PS I am stupid with the posting of pix or I would. Am working on it. Wish it was easier on this forum, judging by archives there are a lot of questions about how hard it is to learn to post pix. Another subject though.....
Whatever you do, have a good time doing it.

If a coin is sent in thru the regrade service, pcgs will guarantee that you won't suffer from a lower grade. If the coin is deemed to need to go in a lower holder pcgs will make financial restitutions to you under the terms of the pcgs grading guarantee.
where they didn't cross to PCGS; I sent them back in with a cross at any grade instruction
and they both crossed the 2nd time at the original grade.
In your case, it seems like there is some judgement on if a coin has slight wear (so AU-55/58 range)
or if it is some rubbing that leaves it in the lower unc ranges. Good luck, but I doubt that you
will get the upgrade from a 58 to a 62, and you should be happy you went from 55 to 58.
