I couldn't find a good image of the Bower's Flannagan coin from 2001 (because the 'new' Bowers archives have been purged) but heres where you can find it:
This (lets call it the 'Flannagan Triumpho') is the finest I have seen and, in my opinion, probably merits a grade of MS63. Perhaps someone with more refined computer skills than I possess can get this 'Flannagan Triumpho' image up next to the coin which is the subject of this thread for a direct comparison. That should be entertaining.
<< <i>The real question I have, Why would Bowers And Merena want to embarrass themselves by putting it in their auction if NGC is so far off on the grade? >>
Why would it embarrass B&M, they didn't grade it? If anyone would be embarrassed it would be NGC for having a blatent overgrade promenently displayed.
I edited my post above about someone "buying" the grade on the Georgius Triumpho that CCU posted. I just reviewed some current auction catalogs and they are all littered with type coins in slabs that are over-graded, imho. They mostly appear to be recently slabbed coins. I don't have the time to research them, but I can guarantee you that many of them are recent upgrades. Therefore I change my opinion about the colonial that is the subject of this thread. It's probably just another great of example of "gradeflation". Again, this coin went from EF-40 to MS-63 in one month. The coin, in all fairness, is better than EF, imo, but probably an AU......not mint state and certainly not MS-63. I guess I just got ticked off when I read this thread (good thing that CCU did not get ticked off )

<< <i>Here's a picture of the Benson PCGS 58 that sold for $4025.
I wonder what type of holder it's in today? >>
I don't know. But heres the Heritage coin that sold in January of 2004 for $2100:
Go here and wait for the Washington Triumpho and Bar Cent photos to alternate every few seconds
