Hello Everyone!!!
I attended my first Charlotte Coin Club meeting last night and had a great time meeting other local collectors and exploring their interests. Several veteran collectors suggested that I start a type set as a way to expand my knowledge of coins in general and also discover other series that I may want to concentrate on in the future. Who is working on or has completed a type set and what advice would you give to someone just starting out? Which coins/ years would you suggest I include or avoid? To keep expense low I would use raw coins. What method of storage and display would you suggest? Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
Best regards,
Al Wilson

Another great place to start is the US Type Set Dansco Book. It covers both 19th and 20th Century coins. It doesn't include all "varieties" such as all three types of 3cent silvers. However it has been a lot of fun putting this together. Somewhere along the way I changed from nice XF examples to MS examples of all coins. I am almost done upgrading everything.
Type sets are the best place to start until a particular series catches your fancy.
