The 1909-O half dollar goes round and round ....

Interesting....I sold a really nice 1909-O Barber half on eBay about 5 weeks ago. Looks like its being re-sold on Teletrade.

The Teletrade image is lousy. It's a really nice ORIGINAL half. Maybe this guy is buying eBay material and running it through Teletrade, hoping for a 5 or 10 % profit...

    You never know.

He/she could be buying the coins and flipping them to a dealer who regularly send stuff in to Teletrade.

If you don't submit regularly to Teletrade, it isn't a great place to sell coins, unless you don't mind waiting for your payment.

Unless of course they've changed their terms.

Dave, I still don't know why I didn't bid on it when you had it on Ebay. Love the coloring. I must have been hot for something else.

Casey - It's a choice half dollar. Lovely color and surfaces, sort of a washed grey-brown tone. I just didn't need it because I had just upgraded that date/MM. I don't like to hoard semi-key Barbers (unlike our little miser friend Tyler ! image). I like to share the love.

eBay can be weird at times - I really figured it would get hammered with 10 seconds to go. Instead, I GOT HAMMERED!

Figure out what you netted after Ebay/shipping/paypal(?) etc.

Then figure out what your net would have been with Teletrade.

Now figure the cost of Teletrade not sending you your money for 6 weeks.

That's the beauty of Ebay for most lower end items. A very short wait for your money.

I'll take the quick turnaround with a smaller profit over a larger profit and an extended wait for payment anytime.

Dave - the 1909 years are wierd for Barber halves. The LIBERTY is very strong and the date is usually overgraded by one half to a full grade.

I bought one on Ebay for $10.00 and turned it for $100 about three months later. Another time I bought one for $70.00 and it sold for $30.00 or so.

Novices may not realize the LIBERTY is so strong and pay the higher grade (I did when I first started collecting the halves), while long time collectors know about the 1909 and are more careful.

In my opinion the half only grades a strong fine overall, but thanks to LIBERTY it usually looks VF. It is a really nice original looking example nonetheless.
