Chicago show update..... well... for Peace $ anyway

Went to the Chicago show this morning.... very busy at the open. I would guess it was just as busy this year as last year. Couldn't find ANY 1928 Peace dollars to add to my hoard.... all of them had issues.... I did find 2 that were borderline ok.... but checked my "don't buy" cert. list and noticed they were on there and that I'd looked at them before at a much lower price over the last few years and declined....$ 1100 now for "average" quality coins for this key date @4.... 63's were going for $800. Finally coming up in price...........

As far as other series... I can't really say.... I only collect Peace $.... I did see an unbelieveable 1928-s@4 for $ 2250 and a "WOW coin" 1926 ms66 in a PCGS that was monster blast white (First I've EVER seen like that) $ 2250 for that one... almost bought it to "turn"... a remarkable coin as well....

PS I like the idea of a personal cert # list with prices. Interesting idea. Maybe many already do this, but it's the first time I heard of the practice.

    FrattLaw:

I started keeping a list of all the slabbed examples I had seen of a particular coin series about a year ago. It's a great idea for keeping track of the coins I see, as well as giving me an at-a-glance list of what's out there. I think it's most useful if you get to most of the big shows - it does take a lot of time to write all that info down, though.

It's also best if you pick a fairly uncommon coin to keep track of, otherwise you could spend hours at a big show writing down slab numbers!

The 1928-s in high grade is tough and underrated

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

I saw a couple guys with a lot of nice Peace dollars. One was stuck way in a corner...didn't seem to be seeing a lot of action.

Lots of 65's and 66's. Too rich for my blood todayimage
  • That was the dealer who had the 28'... He was way in the corner. I've been on his want list forever... THe 28-s was Whitlow I believe.... I think I spelled their name right.

I HAVE to keep track of numbers because just collecting one date, I run into the same coins over and over.... It drove me nuts.... I have well over 100 cert # of MS64's in PCGS slabs that are "substandard" ... I don't keep track of NGC's or any other 3rd party grading companies..... I always hear.... "O, you're the guy who's buying all the PQ 28......" image

Someone also had a blast 1927-s at 4. A VERY hard coin to find in that condition.... $ 1300....
