ARE WE ALL PROTECTED HERE FROM THE LATEST INTERNET ATTACK?

I'm reading about a worldwide attack going on today. Are we all protected on here? Is there something more we need to do?

Depends, they are now listed as being on IIS/6.0 which is safe. I may have been the first to request the info from netcraft (as it shows todays date). If it was updated before yesterday, you are safe. If not, I do not know. They would have to let us know if it was hacked.

There is some info I have been reading about javascript and how that get's taken over or used by other websites to plant evildoers and so forth. I'm out of my element, but, I notice that there is a lot of weeping and moaning going on about it this morning.

Russ: I pulled the plug years ago, but I keep on breathing nonetheless. . .

The last few days, McAfee downloaded several updates automatically for these issues. If mine bites it, they pay for it! Worth the fee every year. I'm on line with cable modern and it's always running. haven't had a problem yet in over 4 years.

  • Hey All,

Rest assured, everything here is fully patched and up to date. From what we've been reading, this attack is based upon an exploit first discovered in April, so any administrators who have kept up to date with patches should be okay.

Do be sure to keep your client side antivirus software up to date though. Although the fix for the server exploit has been around for a while, Microsoft still has not provided a patch for the client vulnerability. The only way you'll be 100% safe when visiting "unprotected" web servers is if your AV is 100% current (like as of today).

    thanks!

"The researchers believe that online organized crime groups are breaking into Web servers and surreptitiously inserting code that takes advantage of two flaws in Internet Explorer that Microsoft has not yet fixed. Those flaws allow the Web server to install a program that takes control of the user's computer."
