Last night I opened a roll of 1963 D Franklins. The end coins are almost black on one side however, the coins in the middle look good. I believe they would grade in the low 60's some might even be FBL. However most of them have spots on them that look like tiny water spots. My question is would dipping thses to try and remove the spots be a good idea and if so with what? MS-70 coin cleaner? Jewelluster? or should I just leave them alone and live with the spots?
The roll was a gift from my father who original bought the roll from the bank in 1963. They have not been stored well over the years. In the attic, on a sailboat he lived on for a few years, etc. The wrapper says Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Memphis Branch.
Sorry no pictures, I have yet to take the plunge and buy a camera.
Thanks

About your end coins, how black is black? I have never cared much for dark toning but I am interested in seeing these.
