follow-up question: Would your wife rather keep you or your coins?

I think I do a good job in keeping the value of my coins a secret from my wife. If she really knew, it might be a tough choice.

My wife knows what I buy along the way, though I think if she ever saw a grand total, it might surprise her. Then again, when I showed her a cumulative value of the stock options, she was ready to gut the house and redecorate.

After I sold everything she was in a state of awe. She couldn't figure out how I was able to purchase the things that I did after I sold my collection. It was then, she knew I had spent entirely too much on coins. I thought she'd have a stroke.image
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • Well I got a girlfriend(if that counts). We've been together for like three months now, and she does't care I collect coins.

Since she really has no clue what I have spent on the coins (and she'd have to go back to work if she did away with me), I think she would prolly keep me. If she knew how much there was in the safe deposit box and other places, it might be a hard choice....

I hoping she will let me kiss the coins good-bye while heading out the door! I think she put those security strips on the slabs and a detector on the doors.

As long as my insurance is worth more than the coins I guess she will continue to tolerate me!! image

Re the insurance, make sure you are worth more alive than dead!!!

My wife has no interest in coins. I have told her that I will sell some of them over the next few years when college bills start to become due. That seems to work.

Been collecting since 1955 and married since 1975. Coins win. If my wife had any idea what the extent of my collection is, she'd dump me, sell the coins and marry a younger man.

I get zero support on the homefront for my collecting -- basically, I sneak around and read a lot of coin books and magazines at home.

I have it good, in that my wife still adores me- so I don't think I have to worry about her wanting to keep something over me... image
