Another Morgan question---

I was doing some surfing and came across something I'm hoping any of you Morgan collectors can enlighten me on, as I know less then nothing of this series.

The following pic shows a 1921 obverse, then three close-up partials of the MM area from Phil, SF, and Denver.

Not even needing to look closely at the Denver reverse, I see major differences in the wreath leaves, knot, berries and lettering size when compared to the other two. I'd like to know if in fact, the D Morgan is/was always like this or is this a pic of a variety? Is there a premium for it if variety? Is it just limited to 1921, or runs further back in the series?

Thanks ahead for any info!

Are you sure the S reverse is from a 21? I've never seen a 21-S with a mintmark that large.
  • My 1921-D MS65 looks about the same. Weak in the details on the leaves. Got to remember this is the one and only year Morgans where minted in Denver !!!

Eric, yea, I'm pretty sure. They are being sold as a set. I'm only assuming the S is from the reverse of a 21 as that is what's advertised. Price is $99. for the three.

Something out of whack with it also?

Go to the Morgan Dollar link below and click on the Mintmarks, there is a table that describes which mintmarks were used for what years annd there are images also.

Thanks for the link, prooflike. It appears as if the "S" pic I posted is from any year of Morgan from 1899 to 1904 based on the size of it.

Still no info on the "D" reverse tho and that is the one I'm curious about (although the advertising of a 1921 MM set with either wrong or mistaken pics is another thought-provoker).

Standard weakly-struck 1921-D morgan with missing detail on the leaves. Look around, there are better struck ones. Berries, letter size, etc. are all the same.
