That's definitely one seller I'll have to put on my 'don't buy from' list...

I also reported the auction to BJ so he could debate the ethics of what the seller is doing... (guess I have Camaron syndrome this morning).

Its his label. I don't see a problem with it if he wants to sell it.

It might unethical but not illegal.

Definitely unethical since he is selling it for the express intent of having someone cheat on thier registry set...

  • I'm going to bid on it and if I win I'm going to ask him to mail it back to PCGS for me.

HEY!! Buy the insert and not the coin. Jerry

    Blatant unethical behaviour.

Here's a case where setting up a phoney eBay account for the express purpose of winning the item and them severely NEG'ing the guy seems warrented.

Makes you wonder how many phantom coins there are in registry sets?

Bwuahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! It had to happen sooner or later!

Now, before everybody hangs this guy, it's just possible he may be trying to make a point with his auction.

PCGS is probably going to wait until someone buys it before they invalidate it, to see who adds it to their set. As of now the number is still good------------------BigE

The point is anyone can crack out a coin and use the label in the registry.
Then send the coin back in get it graded and sell it. No way will pcgs ever know the coin in the registry is only a label unless you put it on eBay or something stupid like that image

Or advertise that you are doing it. Slab # 21527412 for future reference---------------------BigE

  • THE AUCTION HAS BEEN HALTED!

Okay, now everybody watch the registry carefully and see who adds an MS67 1999 GA SQ so we can track them down and burn them at the stake.

Placid has it correct. This is one of the great faults of the registry system.

Placid , has been saying all along that many of the registry sets have no real coins, or have coins that were once in crack outs, and the old labels belong to your competitor. Think how foolish it is to play this game when many of your competitors are just laughing as you pay high prices to build your registry. How many dealers and collectors own nothing but labels. This seller is not shy in telling people what to do.
