If I neg a NPB, and he negs me back for no reason -

will Square Trade remove the neg for me? I am afraid this very thing might happen, and clearly I would do nothing to deserve the neg. It is too bad the system works this way...I have to wait forever for payment for the item, complain about it to Ebay just so I can pay again to relist the item, and maybe get a neg for my efforts. Not too fair, I would say...

Well, you have his address, right? So just pay him a visit with a few of your buddies. image

    And don't forget the chainsaw.

  • Just one of the many bad things with ebay but what can you do? I think do good and eventually your few negatives here and there won't even matter to potential bidders..

Yes, if the other party agrees or does NOT respond to square trade's "initial" notice (think SQ gives 2 weeks for the other party to reply). If other party agreed to remove neg FB you pay $25 for the removal.

Neg FB will be removed automatically if the other party did not reply (within 2 wks) to the "initial" request/notice from square trade. SQ will send him/her a final notice on the 2nd wk. If no reply to the initial request/notice, neg FB will be removed in 7-10 days(?).

Note: Any comments you make can be viewed by the other party.

No, if the other party responds and chooses the option will think about it later or still thinking about... (something like that). After that, you can ask for a mediator (think you pay for mediation). You communicate with the other party and mediator. You're stuck (with the neg) if the other party refuses to communicate or go through mediation. The case will remain open up to 60 days if ever the other party decides to mediate.

  • I don't neg NPB for that very reason. They will neg me in spite. It's not worth the $25 to hopefully get the neg removed. Also, no disrespect but Squaretrade is useless IMHO. The other person still has to basically give the o.k. If they stand their ground, you wasted more money and you're still screwed. image

What a freakin' racket that is.

$25 to remove a neg you didn't deserve in the first place. I think ebay should make it that if you leave negative feedback for someone that you filed an NPB for, then they should only be able to leave you a positive or a neutral. Obviously more difficult from the other side though. Ie a seller never sends a product, but you paid, leaving a neg and getting a retaliatory is just as unfair but may be harder to mitigate the repurcussions though simple programming logic...

Oh well, I think overall, the feedback system works as it was intended. Buyers/sellers aren't going to fault someone with a few negs, espeically when they take the time to look and see they were obviously retaliatory. I'll state again though, leave something professional, to the point and accurate in your follow up. A non follow-up simply says you are too lazy, don't care or have no comeback to the neg IMO. A cure ridden, name calling followup is even worse. A simple "Retaliation FB. Buyer got NPB, and a neg." I've seen sellers leave them back on people and their neg only says "you neg me, here one for you" (Yes, I really saw that) Nobody would give any credence to that...

Yep - I think a visit from the boys is in order here...

But, thanks for all of the helpful comments and advice. A person who gets a NPB notice filed against him after a resonable period of time should not have the ability to leave feedback (maybe positive only, as mentioned). That glitch in the system actually empowers the NPB for no good reason.

Yes they'll remove it. Had a friend get hers removed for $20 I believe. Squaretrade has to still contact the other party and mediate. That doesn't make sense because what if that other party doesn't want to cooperate. Luckily, this one did with a total of -2 feedback and is NARU. It's still BS to have to pay to get it removed......

You know ebay was just thinking of a way to make money on that. Obviously they couldn't possibly handle all the requests by people, both legitimate and not, to remove "unfair" feedback. So they made a blanket "we won't touch it, police yourselves" Which then turned feedback into a bit of a joke as now a lot of people won't leave a neg for fear of getting one in return. Which leaves it open to other sellers/buyers to being scammed by the same person because the only real way of knowing a persons past is via the feedback score.

Now, ebay says...alright. We realize it's gotten to be a joke, so in order to take off a neg you pay us $20 or $25 or whatever and we'll see... How much money do you suppose they make in a single day off that? Do they pay "Feedback Caseworkers" to handle each complaint? It's a racket. Plain and simple. If a neg is deserved, leave one. If they feel they have to neg you back... take it and leave a non-emotional follow up. It sucks, I used to have nightmares that I woke up from 100% feedback to like 3 negs...AAARRGGHH! The Horror! Now I've got 4 out of 600 transactions(that left feedback) and all are retaliatory. Oh well.
  • The way I understand the process is the negative feedback gets taken away from the percentage of negative feedbacks, but the comment remains regardless of what happens..the big red do-nut stays there. but the percentage is restored. I hope my understanding is wrong. It's still a racket.

Only problem with that is the other user has to agree to remove it. In the case of retaliatory it probably boils down to a "you take mine off and I'll agree to take yours off" Which just makes the whole thing a joke anyway.... I say save your $25, save the hassle, leave the neg if it's deserved and move on. You can't be getting that many deadbeat bidders that the retaliation would affect your overall score anyway. Besides, anything over 98% is pretty damn good anyway. Assuming you have some feedback to speak of, and once you're over a hundred or so anyway I think it plays less and less of a role, unless it's a very big ticket item.
  • You guys are making me feel better. I have over 175 positive feedbacks...100%, and I have met the buyer from hell who can't be satisfied even though I have offered full-refund, and I pay all the return shipping charges. In addition he claims his wife lost the ball holder I encased the $17 autographed baseball in.

PP, that's probably ebay's mutually withdrawn FB. Don't know how mutually withdrawn works. Through square trade, everything's removed it's like FB was never left.

This is what I notice, when you look at the FB page right above the comments you see the "number feedback and number mutually withdrawn" received by that ID and if they don't match with the member profile on the above box I think FB(s) were removed through SQ.

    ctsoxfan,
I have had some problems with NPB lately as well.
What was the auction for? Can you provide the link?

    Thanks.

    Loves me some shiny!

Carew, as luck would have it, I actually got paid today for this! Maybe it was my email of a few days ago reminding him (in a nice way, of course) that his payment hasn't been received as of yet...and, if he didn't want the item, fine. I told him I was simply going to relist it by the weekend. Lo and behold, in my mailbox tonight was a money order...

I have used the NPB alert with pretty good success, this link will get you in the right direction:

  • On several occasions I have simply requested CONTACT INFORMATION about the buyer OR seller, and that person has been nudged to take some action. Both the buyer and the seller get each other's address and phone number. Apparently it serves as "incentive" to get their asses in gear.
