Help with card grading submission

PSA suggests that you use a box to put your cards in when submitting them through the mail..I would like to know if this is a writting rule? or if it's just a suggestion..also I would like to know if anyone has ever had any troubles using a padded envelope?

I always send in too many cards at a time to make using anything other than a box impossible...but, I would guess they are merely suggesting a box as it would offer the best protection for your cards. I don't believe it is a "rule", but neither is using a Card Saver...I would encourage you to do both.

    yes.
use a box AND use Registered mail

that way we do not have to hear blame PSA later
when your cards are either lost or damaged
because you used an envelope sent priority....

Do yourself a favor and use a box and pack the cards in between 2 pieces of cardboard and use registered mail. If the cards are worth grading and worth spending the money on then they are worth protecting in transit. PSA will take the same care shipping them back to you and they'll already be in hard plastic holders. image

My theory is, any card worth grading I should insure is still worth grading when it arrives. I can't imagine sending a sure PSA 10 to them only to have it come back an 8 because the padded mailer got stuck under a 50lb box or something on the mail truck. Or worse yet, the package gets lost.

I always use a box, and I always make stacks of no more than 25 cards in Cardsavers and then use the plastic pieces from a screw down holder and sandwich the cards inside the plastic pieces and tape the edges. It's much more stable than cardboard I think. If the box gets crushed or tossed around, it allows for little movement and minimal possible damage. Would never send using anything other than registered mail.
  • Ditto what A761506 said. You are just protecting yourself in the long run

Looking for 81-84 Topps Stickers in PSA 9 or better, 81 Topps Scratch offs, 83 Topps Fold outs in PSA 8 or better, 83 Fleer Stamps and 81/86 Fleer Star Stickers in PSA 9 or better.

I know registered mail provides more protection against loss, but is it delivered more securely? How so? I couldn't find any specifics about this on the USPS web-site.

yes, registered mail is delivered more securely. Each pakage is "signed out" to a worker, it travels under lock and key the entire way to it's destination and is accounted for by a person each step of the way. You'll notice on your box when you get it back from PSA that ther ewill be mail id # marked on it. Ie. NL (Note Left) 144561. That's the postal worker that handled it. That way, if anything happens to it they know who touched it last. Plus it comes with a whopping $100 of insurance up front. Standard delivery times apply I believe and you can't do a priority registered package, though you might be able to do an express...not 100% sure on that.

usually i submit too many at once to not use a box, but...

if i am going to get just 1 or 2 cards crossgraded, sometimes i'll send them in a big bubble envelope with cardboard around the case.
