PCGS is passing out the 70 grade like a pervert with candy at the playground.

For many of the coins I am buying or taking on consignment for the site, it looks to me like the %'s are coming in very close to what DH suggested back when he looked into the issue a couple years ago - around 1% - 2% or so. Some coins way under that % - such as $100 MS70 Platinum and some higher than that % such as common date Roosies from the 1980's-1990's. I did see a board member score a bunch of 70's on an order though.

I am a strong buyer of these coins, especially the coins I could use for my personal registry sets (hint, hint - help needed in Half Dollar, Dollar and $5 Gold Commems in MS70 please)!

P.S. The last bulk order I submitted personally went 0/280 for PR70's in the tough 1999 silver state quarter area earlier this year.

Candy? It certainly depends upon the series (Bazooka Joe, or Godiva), and MS or PR (plain or dipped). image
The MS and PR candy I collect is rare. These 70s are not being popped like bubble gum. True, there are some chock full o' nuts, but a quick look at the pop charts will show that there are vasts differences in the numbers of available 70s within different series.

    "Bazooka Joe, or Godiva"

Well put! Anyone out there think a early date (1982-1989) Modern Commem Half in PCGS-MS70 is an easy coin to slab - give it a try and report back to us all!!

    Mitch,
I know that from past experience. Was just trying to make a funny. I may take you up on the offer down the road.

I just received my 2004 Jefferson Nickel duo from Mitch, and they are absolutely beautiful black-and-white coins! Thanks very much, Mitch! I especially wanted to have really nice examples of these because I'm so jazzed that they've adopted new reverses (now I don't have to be jealous about the variety the quarter guys are getting) and, as you said, these are really cool coins.

    Thanks again!

BNE: You are very welcome. image

I am more than happy to handpick super jewels for the board members from my deep inventory - I am just a PM away . While, overall, the PR70's coming out of PCGS these days are super quality -there are always subtle differences of depth of deep cameo contrast that mean a great deal to some of you, as it does to me in the proof series I am collecting.

And, before anyone jumps down at me - this thread was NOT on the front page when BNE entered his comment, which is why I now have (2) selling threads on the front page. Once again, thanks BNE.

  • I agree with Russiepooh on this one (finally), Wonderbread is now working with Hannes Tulving, everyone should go directly to Hannes to buy these coins, why pay a middleman's prices.

Besides, I do see any ultra low pops on his website.

If I cant make a 70 the way PCGS has been lately I'll never buy another, why spend 30k on a single modern coin much less 5k when you can make it for a few bucks over melt.

That's if you can buy enough raw coins direct from the mint or a wholesaler. image

Also, Ooooh OoOoOooo deep inventory, maybe I should deep into my raw inventory and HOSE the pop reports some more Ooohoooo OooOoooooohhhhhh

His deep inventory is Hannes Tulving's dont let him fool you go to www.tulving.com

Tip to the wise since Hannes has a personality of a turnup, be nice to him, buy a crap load of coins like The Smith Collection, this will cut the "wonder" out of the 70 price .

And one last note, has anyone noticed why DHRC does not sell any coins on eBay anymore, also, why JR left DHRC?

    Makes you "Wonder" eh?

Maybe I should crack out some of my coins and HOSE the pop report as eh hem some did with the 1998 MS-69 $10's it went from a pop 92 to a pop 467 in less than 3 months, took an 800 dollar coin and dropped it to $150 in less than 4 months, good going......

    LMAO!

<< <i>Mr. Platinum do you really think anyone here gives a rats arse what you think. >>

    Craig,

That would be a big no. BTW, did you see platinumboy's pic when it was posted over in the US Coin forum? He looks like a Hollywood pimp. Which, when you think about it, makes sense.

A board member, arrogant? yes. Self-absorbed?, yes. Lack of deference for his peers?, 100%... Egotistical? Beyond any question.
Classic? Yes, classic behavior. So now where we go from here? Chastise him or be above that...
It takes all types, and personally, I am appreciative that there are worse jerks on the boards, than me.

In case some of you haven't already figured this out, this clown feeds on attention, good or bad. May I suggest that you just put him on ignore. image
