I gave it a 63 for all of the marks, but it looks full of luster

I'm going with a 63, but Peace dollars to me are so hard to tell what the grade may be because of the weak strike! This has got to be the toughest series to grade!

Nice looker Baley. I'll start at 65 and while I feel it has the luster and probably the strike for the grade, too many marks. Next 64, again luster is great, but too many marks and some of them look deep. 63? pretty darn close, I want to say 63, and it would be tough to call this any less. BUT, going by the image I'm thinking the noise that's on the nose (that appears to be deep) on the chin, and just some general chatter in the fields, reverse too I'm gonna say 62++++++. Again, I hate to say 62 and sound tough because the luster is really nice and eye-appealing.

  • Im gonna say a 62
  • I'm voting on a 62 as well. The marks on the nose are way too distracting. It is absolutely dripping with luster though.

I am thinking 63, looks like a few to many marks to make 64.

I gave it an AU58. Still in a bad mood over the Laura thing.

I didn't vote but I think it has a shot at 63, but mostlikely a high end 62. It is an attractive coin regardless.

    62, 66DMPL if it's in a PCI holder
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
  • Baley,

My compliments on a very attractive coin for such a tough date. I guessed MS63.

I think you really just want to receive another grading fee image

good comments everyone, I tend to agree with the consensus, and grade this one a strong 62 or maybe possibly a very weak 63. (great luster, decent strike, just a few too many and severe and ill-placed marks to warrant any higher) ICG graded the coin MS62

I don't mind the marks at the nose too much, as my peace dollar set has coins with all variety of imperfections; some have great luster but a few marks, others have mark-free surfaces but weaker strikes, still others have mediocre strikes and marks, but nice color.

This coin fills a pretty tough hole for me and I am pretty happy with it for $150 (did not think my chances were very good of finding a better looking 24S for that kind of price.)

    thanks for your comments!

  • MS-63 just because there seem to be a light scattering of marks in the focal areas...and is that a lint mark just above the O on the reverse?
putting together a MS 60 and up Morgan set....60% complete...otlher 40% probably take the rest of the decade!
  • I said MS62, but I always grade a little low. PCGS has nothing on me!

excellent analysis Stman. the steep "curve" for this poll averages out to about 62.8, or just as you say, MS62+ but not quite 63. obviously ICG agreed. and I like the "luster value" for this date, I've seen higher graded 1924-S coins that didn't have half the "arms length" eye appeal of this peace.

There are a lot of ways a coin can grade MS62!

  • My first inclination was 64, but then I knocked it down to 63. The hair looks a little weak to me.

Just curious - why the month delay between your responses Baley?

Relayer, sometimes I'll dig up an old thread that relates to a newer one, to compare and contrast and to get more votes in the poll from new or old members who may not have voted yet. It still surprises me that there are only 66 people (as of now) who voted/wanted to see the poll results. I thought this place had 10,000 members?!?
