Ya know in the early 90's he might have been a blip on the radar screen - his hitting wasn't bad for a catcher and he was making some pretty good money with Pittsburgh. Were you ever a Pirate fan?

  • 1986s?? I remember pulling mt Slaughts out around then. why? that was the year he got hit in the face with that pitch and they weren't sure he'd play again.

wlf - not just 86's, but a variety of years.. lol.. i have an extensive collection of Slaught cards!

mike - nope, NEVER a pirates fan.. I always liked the Braves and Cubs in the NL just because they were the only teams I could see on TV (WGN & TBS).. remember Vance Law, Jody Davis, Shawon Dunston, Leon Durham?.. those guys ruled.. (i thought)

I jumped on the Oakland bandwagon as a kid, after McGwire hit 49 homers his rookie season.. I've been an Oakland fan ever since.. those were the days.. "The Bash Brothers".. Dave Stewart, Dave Henderson, Carney Lansford, RICKEY henderson Terry Steinbach.. that was my team..

In this day and age of PDAs and digital cameras/camcorders, a good memory is overrated anyway ...

I've got a stack of about 50 1988 Topps Dave Valle rookie cards as a Mariners catcher. I played Strat-O-Matic with a few of my childhood friends and he had an abbreviated season worth of great stats on one of his cards and basically was the league's MVP.

    Enjoy your collection!
