Trime help...Is this a proof or business strike? 1862

Was in OKC for a wedding and went to a nice little shop there in town for a bit of buying.

Bought this for inventory because is has awesome color and is totally original in my opinion. Anyway,

I am having a hard time telling whether it is a proof or not. It is prooflike with cameo colors but the mirrors are subdued, especially on the reverse by the toning. Superb strike...

Anyone know a dead give away diagnostic to differentiate?

It is impossible o say for certain from the photo but 1862 MS may be very PL. Please go to Heritage site LB Signature sale in June 2004 Lot 5495 as an example of an NGC MS 62PL.

    Thanks... will do...
  • Proof or MS, either way that's a pretty cool fish scale.

Just an educated guess, but this sure looks proof to me.

I thought the obverse looks proof... but the reverse MS... maybe a new manufacture marriage! image

I'd send it in to see what they say... I hope the color turns out ok... something looks a little off to me, but I hope I'm wrong, 'cus it's awefully pretty!

I saw this in your thread on the BST and looked at Heritage myself. I think it looks like an MS coin.

John: That's a beautiful little trime -- I'm going to guess that it's a Business Strike coin rather than a proof, but I'm only a novice when it comes to 1/33rd of a Dollar Silver Pieces image
