Right ... how does this coin make MS-68 with those apparent cheek marks...any detraction that immediately draws your eye is not supposed to even grade 67 ...

Yeah I noticed that.

George, are you kidding me? Why would you want that thing? I mean take a look at it. The reverse was struck upside down!! That thing is flawed. I would melt it down for silver.
The FB designation seems low-end to me... but I think the "mushyness" you see, is just because of the angle of the shot. It makes it so some of the less struck-up areas are lower, and flat.
My grade on the coin is a Technical 67FB that got a bump for eye appeal.
From what I have seen they have made alot of mistakes within the Merc Series during the last couple of years. Many 67's have been won at auction and truthfully only about thirtry percent would get 67 from me. I'm consistant though...
I think the picture is just a bad angle and is showing mushyness in the bands... but of course... what would I know about my choosen field...
And jeremy, I believe yours isn't because the bands aren't quite fully struck up. Though if you feel adamant that it is FB, why don't you send it in for designation review?
Both coins shown are questionable on the FB. If both coins are 68's there should be no question at all. IMO NGC got it correct on the coin shown. Of course they have been pretty tough on giving the designation all along. Sometimes they blow it but not very often.
One other comment. If that PCGS coin is not FB the Dealer should send it back and get this corrected. If the dealer does not send it back some collector will receive the shaft somewhere down the road. This is a $2000 common date coin. Would I pay that much for a common date ? Think NO and you will be correct. $200 is more like it.

That dime would be hard pressed to get a 67 from me.
This is typical of some of the junk getting the high grades from PCGS and NGC within the Merc series.

PS: This is a picture. Maybe its better in person but I doubt it.
on the plus side, i'll bet the luster is coruscating
