This ebay sellers listings bother me

mintcardsales has 100% feedback on 1248 positives. However, the wording and marketing of his cards leave it as a crap shoot whether you really get a Near Mint card, let alone a Nm/MT or Mint card.

Example listing

Example with MINT!!! in the listing

Any 1st hand experiences or not, welcome.
Enjoy your collection!

He's selling raw - so there is a crapshoot factor involved if you haven't dealt with him before. To non-graded collectors and dealers - the subtle differences between NM, NM/MT and MINT are sometimes so subtle that it takes a very trained and specific eye to make a determination - something not often undertaken on cards worth a few bucks or less. That he scanned on a white background is not helpful - but he does not seem to be deceptive in his listing, imho.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

That about takes him off the hook, since that card is in no way "mint"...

I say buy raw in person. Looks like he used Sammie there to wipe something.
  • I always list my cards showing front and back, and I supersize them. I scan them with the cover of the scanner open. That gives a black background. Too many sellers don't show the backs of the cards, and in the case of many cards, many times that's where the glue, the stickers, the scrathches, and the food remnants exist. I only buy graded cards, and I no longer post ungraded cards. Without some sort of a frame of reference, it is all a crap shoot.
