It is time to start thinking about what to collect next.
All my dollar sets will be auctioned off in the PRE-ANA Superior sale in PA .
After 39 years of collecting Dollars,it was a difficult decision to sell.
Some of these dollars are one of a kind, and can never be replaced or duplicated.
It will be a difficult decision on what to start next, and I hope to get help from some of our members.
Here are some sets that are in the running:
Lincoln cents 1909-1958
buffalo nickels
Merc dimes basic set
standing lib quarters
wash quarters to 64
Walkers maybe basic or late date set.
I want to start a set that has not been run up so high in the last few years.
A set that has room to still get some good "value" .
I really like lincolns,as they were what started me collecting back in 1963 or so.
What would it cost to put together a top 5 Lincoln basic set ?
Same question for the other sets on my list.
Your comments are appreciated,
Larry

Gosh, at this point probably 500K to a million. Still cheap I think compared to a top 5 complete Walker or Morgan Dollar set.
BTW for anyone reading this that likes dollars I would suggest looking at the auction as Larry is picky on what goes into his set. There will be some nice coins for sale so don't miss them. I know I won't.
Lost a few hours of sleep thinking about it..

you can put together a top 5 set of lincolns but it will cost over 500k at this
pt , and that is if you can find the coins for sale, but they may continue to go up for the
next several years and you could do well with them. Only time will tell

I like silver myself
We should we asking you for advice, not the other way around!!! For what its worth, here is my take on your ideas.
Mercury Dimes - Seem like a very good value and very pretty coins.
SLQs - I very like the value in high grade non-FH. I am still not a real believer in paying large premiums for strike designations pieces. Others will of course disagree.
Walkers - I had a nice high grade 33 to 48 set. I recently sold them as I thought the value was not there anymore. The early pieces might not have run up as much, but seemed higher priced to begin with. If I were collecting Walkers now, I would look for specific dates and grades and not try to do a full set. The early dates should be comprehendable to someone experienced in Peace Dollars.
Buffalos, Lincolns - Others are much more informed in these series'. I like Merc dimes as a better value. Proof Buffalos might be interesting.
Silver Washingtons - I collected a nice high grade set of these, but got very tired of them by the time I finished. I would expect pops to continue to grow at the 66/67 level. Some of the values of select 30's pieces are interesting.
Best of luck.
BTW, did you put together an IKE set. Shoot me a PM if you have any to sell.

As for new ideas, don't forget to collect what you like -- collecting lincolns, for example, might make a lot of sense, but if they don't turn you on, the "magic" may never be there. I like to get ideas from my kids. They lot the silver commemoratives, and they have me convinced that there are some neat designs. Indian gold is also neat.
there will be lots of pl and dmpl morgans to upgrade your set.
My sets are not the highest graded sets..and not worth the most..but I bet it will be the nicest set for the grade on this planet
There are at least 32 coins that will be in higher grade holders someday....
Thanks guys for your input..
I am not sure that any coins but Dollars will give me the thrill these did..
I am considering Mercs...I had a complete short set of UNCS years ago..and I may want to start over again.
I just don't want to start a collection at the top of the market.

I also really like the merc dime and buffalo nickel sets.

Judging from your dollar sets, I have to go with either Standing libs or patterns, even though i dont think
you mentioned those. Both would be extremely hard, but after what you did with the dollars shouldnt
be hard for you

Walkers is an excellent choice "Typetone", and also the S.L.Q's........ But I would have liked to have seen that 1948 Walker you sold it would be worth a ton since they didn't mint any that year! I'm sure you meant 1933 to 47.
Buffalos and Lincolns (including the early matte proofs on the latter two).
You could even include the '38-'42 Jeffersons just for grins!
