Mint Sets / Ebay

Hello Gang,


I was looking at a few Mint Sets on ebay. Here is one example:

I know there is alot of nasty stuff that happens to people on ebay. Kinda curious if someone would cherry pick the set and pop a different coin in the slot(cardboard type) or pull coins out of the plastic and reseal the set. Anyone ever had this happen to them or heard of anything like this? Kinda curious.

Most "sealed" sets have probably been resealed.

And yes, it's quite easy for someone to switch the coins in a set for lower quality ones...

You can tell if the plastic has been cut. THat's simple.

The cardboard is different. Almost impossible to tell. You have to look for similar toning patterns. Even on the same board the patterns will vary, but you should see a trend within the board.

The sets you show look ok to me.

Once upon a time, I had purchased a 51 mint set on ebay.......... Seller swore up and down it was completely original, matching toning, etc......... When I got it, one of the halves and one of the quarters had obviously "switched out"......... When I notified the seller I would be returning the set, he (in as many words) accused ME of pulling the switch.......... Took some stern emails on my part, but did manage to get a FULL refund INCLUDING S/H/I.......... I wasn't so sure his check would clear, but it did, and all ended well........ P.S., I'm still looking for an original 51 set (hint, hint)

I would ask what their return policy is, and inquire on all you want to know from the seller, and if there is a return policy, and they have a good feedback rating I would feel pretty good about the purchase.

Also if your not happy return it a.s.a.p., and then you will find out if their a seller with integrity or not.

The majority of my dealings on e-bay have gone very well.
