I'm not really an expert and I'm not sure exactly what the price/grade is but you may want to grab a couple if you can and hang onto them for a while. I think more collectors will be interested in adding these varieties to their collections in the future and that means the demand will increase. Remember price follows demand.
WOW?! That is a chunk of change for a MS63 even if it is a T2. And here I thought the T1's were the sleeper's of the group. Anyone know the current pop's on the three types of the 72-P MS63-MS65 just for comparison?
Someone wanted a type2 awfully bad or they just have deep enough pockets they don't care.

Well my 1972 IKE Type 2 was acquired several years ago. It wasn't too expensive then. Now I am trying for a Type 2, but WalterScotth seems dead set on trying to corner the market. Nothing against him, I think I've bought from him in the past too. It seems that in the last year or so the market for these has really heated up. I used to think it was a temproary fad type of thing, but it's been getting stronger. We must be getting a lot of new people coming in collecting too.
Considering that, I'd probably part with my collection if someone really wanted them that much too. My Circulation Set My variety collection. I finally got around to submitting my proofs for grading, so when they return, depending on how many get BB'd I might have this one done too. My proofs collection Of course I am pretty proud of the 1978-S, I got that 5-6 years ago. I still wonder who's hoarding the PR70DCAM coin of this year though.

Try supercoin.com He has a great description with pictures of the 3 types of the 72-P. He used to have one on the 71-s Peg Leg as well, but don't think he does any longer. hope that helps!

These are some of the Ikes I have been trying to get recently. I scored the 1971 @ 357.01. They used to go for 500-700. Still very difficult item to get graded yourself. I have had many candidates but none made a 67.
1971 S Silver PCGS MS67 - 357.01, 360.00, 374.99, 417.00
The 1972's, here are some of the prices I have seen in the past 60 days or so from the completed items on ebay. Obviously these are not the valued prices but this is what you can get one for on ebay int he recent months. I have not see the type 2 in while except in low grades. I would be willing to buy an MS64 but definitely not for $500...maybe for $100... $150 tops that is bright white.
1972 P Type 1 PCGS MS65 - 440.00, 500.00, 590.85, 600.00(blue toned), 710.07 1972 P Type 2 PCGS MS65 - 495.00, 500.00 1972 P Type 2 PCGS MS64 - 500.00 1972 P Type 3 PCGS MS65 - 380.00, 455.01, 535.00
I wish you can still see th history on ebay past 30 days but those are what I have seen sell on ebay. I have not been home before March so the prices I have seen are only from April - Present and I have not seen any type 2's since. Maybe those two bidders got lucky. I know before I kept a record in April, that some type 2's went for less. I saw it on ebay. Ebay may not be the trend setter but that is where most people buy and sell.
edit: My record was started on May 2, 2004.
Ebay record can be seen here for the month of June on the past prices for 1972 types:prices
I am not trying to deceive or argue with anyone but those were the prices I saw for those Type 2's? And if everyone is saying they are going for $2000 then I am kicking myself for being one of the few to actually see some that went for cheap...in a type 2 MS65 sort of way.

PCGS in MS64 I have seen sell for $500.00, but I never saw an MS65 sell for that little and I have been looking for over a year on eBay.
If you do happen to run across that price for a type 2, my advice is to buy it.

It looks like knightagain realy wanted that coin. Maybe I should contact him and see it he wants to buy my spare Type III MS64.
Best regards,
Al
1. Maybe knightagain is in direct competition with the other guy.
OR
2. Maybe a few to many beers and an ego that HATES

Thank you very much for the pops! Even with the modest pops for a T2 MS63, over $100 sounds like a lot for that specimen.

My lucks pretty bad on these things, so note that when I do get a 1972 type 2, the market will very likely go down after that.

They are!....Actually, $2,000 is kind of low for a Type 2 in 65!
It is hard to find a Type 2 in 64 for less than $400 in ANY color!
Type 2's in 63 are going for about $125-50 right now.
