Who said football guys were stupid?

This Ottis Anderson PSA 10, which is off center and has an unexplained black splotch on the top border, sold for about 1/4 what the first one did (which was much nicer). I know many running back and Super Bowl collectors (myself included) want one of these in 10, so I was impressed with the reserved bidding. Of course, it could just be that we're all waiting for the rest of DSL's stash of these to be auctioned (check cert numbers 30490453 through 30490521).

How many are they sitting on.....I'm always amazed at how many 75 t Killebrew PSA 9 they must have, every few weeks they auction another one off. They must have some vault the size of fort knox with high grade grades they slowly auction off. The 1980 football set has to be one of the weakest looking sets made. I bet they spent no more than 5 minutes on designing it and that includes the 3 minutes the guy spent on the can taking a dump......

that acually looks like a smudge or something on the scanner... not a mark on the case, but thats just my opinion

The centering on the Anderson was definitely not good enough to warrant top dollar, and the outcome showed that.

But I am still amazed at the number of PSA 10 Andersons in existence. That will keep the price down as well...

On a good note, i finally got a Barry Sanders PSA 10!! Next up is Emmitt...lol

AlanAllen, azvike is going to give you a run for that All-Time Rushers set...

It looks that way, and just in time for my wife to quit work and go back to school. I need to get a whole lot better at poker, or sell oranges on the street corner or something.

I would love to know the contents of that stash as well. They go from heavy football, back to baseball, and lately have even dabbled in basketball (86 Fleer). Wherever the raw cards are coming from, they have to be running out soon, right?

Forget the oranges and sell me some of your cards image

  • They have had those Anderson 10s in their pocket now a while, they have been rolling them out very slow. I think only the 2 so far.

I rather like the 1980 set, it does seem like Topps cut a lot of corners that year, making it a very tough year compared to 1979 and 1981.

I don't know if '80 is tougher than '79, but it's certainly tougher than '81.

DSL had another tough card sell incredibly low this weekend - a PSA 10 Marcus Allen RC for $305 image! I paid over $800 for mine, as I'm sure at least one person on this thread remembers.

  • Saw that - had my bid gone, it would have been right behind Jason's.
That is a deal on that card. A fair price is $500 range (IMHO), give or take 15%.

    I missed that oneimage

That's it, no more business trips to Pittsburgh. I agree with Jeremy though. $500 would have been a fair price. I'll have to wait for the next one.

    Joe,

Did you miss the '85 Topps Football Raiders Team MARCUS ALLEN PSA 9 1/1?
  • sixdartsixdart Posts: 821 ✭✭
    Jeremy,

How tough is Allen's RC card in PSA 10 - as a double print?
  • AlanAllenAlanAllen Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭
    Sixdart,
I saw it, but it went above my queued snipe. You can get a base '85 Allen PSA 9 for less than the team card went for, so I'm sure I'll be able to pick one up later for less.

The RC is deceptively tough to find in PSA 10. Although it was a double print from the 80's, the stock seems soft and there is nearly always either one soft corner or a shift 5% off center making nines plentiful but 10's tough as nails. It's easier than Elway or Rice in 10, but tougher than Marino. There have been 18 tens of 1820 total slabbed. Most are locked in permanent collections, so they rarely surface for auction. $305 is an absolute steal.

  • Thanks Joe - yes 18 out of 1820 is seems pretty tough.
And when I compare it to an Elway or Marino or Moon (another premier 80s star) $500 is fair, but seems a little cheap.
It would be more if it weren't a double print. Maybe $750 - $1000.

So who got that 83 Raiders TL PSA 10 up last week? Was it you Joe?

Yup. I'm still looking for the Allen/Tyler League Leaders in 10 though.

What would a '85 Moon RC PSA 10 go for now? I believe there are 11 around 1200 submitted. Is he eligible for the Hall Of Fame in 2005 or 2006.

Joe, I saw that Mint State, Inc sold his '85 Allen PSA 10 - list was $399. I won the 3rd graded PSA 10 on EBAY with a buy-it-now. Any idea who the other Allen buyer was?
  • AlanAllenAlanAllen Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭
    sixdart,
No, I sure don't. I didn't even know there had been a third one slabbed, you must have hit the BIN before I saw it. Do you mind sharing what you paid?

It went unsold at the buy-it-now price of $250. When 4 Sharp Corners relisted it at a buy-it-now price of $200, I pulled the trigger.

I actually planned on bidding in the $500-$600 range for the Allen RC, but got caught up doing something else. I should have just sniped it, but sometimes I like to self-snipe..lol

But that's what happens...Same thing as the PSA 7 1966 Philly Chuck Howley last night...Just missed it, and both went for SUPER low prices...Allen for $305 is insane...EVERYONE must have missed it for it to go so low...

I've gotten some deals like that before too, so I guess I can't complain too much...Next one will go through the roof because everyone will be bidding in hopes of another steal...

    Update...Just snagged a PSA 10 Marcus Allen for $400..

    PSA 10 Marcus Allen RC

I guess since there have been 4 new PSA 10's in the last 6 months, the market has leveled. Nice to finally add this card to my collection at an affordable price. I first one I had(and sold) i paid well over $400, and it was just too much for me to stomach at the time..

Shameless plug.....I've added quite a bit of new cards to my website today.

They are selling like hot cakes, so if you are interested in any for your registered sets e-mail me ASAP.

10% discount for anyone from the PSA Set Registry message board. Just mention it in your e-mail...

Good pick up Jason. When 4 Sharp Corners reserves aren't met , you never know what Roger will list the buy-it-nows for? I guess we all know that they get listed the next morning ... so have the trigger finger ready!

Nice! I just picked up a Dickerson 10 from them as well. I'm glad the 80's stuff is becoming more available in PSA 10, but I wish I hadn't been the one to buy an Allen 10 at the peak image.

I think you got a good deal on the Dickerson as well...I had a snipe set that was not too far from the winning bid price ($500)...

  • I have to adjust my searchs. I didn't see either of those items and I have been looking. Has anyone seen a Moon RC PSA 10 recently?

BTW, Congrats Jason and Joe on some nice pickupsimage

There have been ( 2 ) MOON PSA 10s graded this year, however they have yet to surface for resale. It is a solid investment - especially before he's elected to the NFL HOF.
