1992 Score II Wax Odds of Autograph...

Anyone know what the approximate odds are on this product? This is one of the few cases I have unopened, (bought it really cheap a few years back), and was wondering what the odds were of pulling a Musial, Mantle, Yaz or the triple autograph?

  • very, very, low odds. i know a guy who busted 12 cases, and pulled no autos.

i believe there are 6500 total autos, which seems high by today's standards, but they produced enough product to block out the sun

I think you should buy a texas lotto ticket for tonight instead, its up to $145,000,000.00 and you would probably have better odds.

I don't think I've ever seen an auto from 92 score. Any idea what they go for on ebay. If they are worth big $ i'd break it, considering the regular cards aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I wonder what set has the largest print run. Didn't 91 score forget to shut the presses off as well......

Yeah, even with 6500 copies, it would be a hard pull.. all of the Donruss Elite cards from those years (1991/1992) were print runs of 10,000 and they were hard as &*$@!^ to get from packs.. simply because there was 21047272143094884823+ packs of Donruss made..

For fightguy (and anyone else that hasn't seen one).. The only card of note in the rest of the set is Manny Ramirez, which shouldn't be hard to find in Gem Mint shape (white bordered card). If you've got cases lying around, you are probably better off selling them at $5.00 a box than breaking them in hopes of finding an autograph, since the non-autographed versions of the cards are tough to move as well.

In 1991-92, it was the peak of the mainstream public fad for collecting. Owing largely to UD, a ton of new people got into collecting, and with the increased price points, a ton of new business got into selling. I've heard of a mattress store and a Chinese restaurant selling cards back in those days. I personally was in a video store and a greeting card store selling them. I've seen a couple different places saying the print run of 1992 UD low series was over 100,000 20-box cases, excluding retail and high series cases. I'd guess Score produced somewhere around 30-40 thousand series 2 cases. So finding one of a few thousand cards among all those is really something.

That said, go ahead and rip it. You never know until you know.

I pulled the Mantle/Musial/Yaz triple gold ink auto /500 back in 1992. I had offers as high as five grand at the time. I got it off a stack of about 200-300 boxes at a Price Club.

There are a total of 6,000 single autos and 500 triple, so considering all the cases that were produced they are very hard to pull.

I actually had a friend who got a box for christmas in 93 and pulled the Yaz Auto.

A few years later, I bought 2 boxes on clearance at a local shop and got nothin.

  • I love these early 90's chase auto's and personally collect the UD Heros (currently I have the 91 Ryan and Hull). They're not real limited by today's standards, but considering the amount that is still buried in the insane number of cases unopened, they're very tough to come by and even harder to actually pull. I remember coveting these cards as a kid so now its fun to finally be able to pick them up on the semi-cheap.

The local money pit actually has a couple of these. I didn't even remember these being out. I know they have a Mantle, Yaz and Musial. I think there is a 4th too, but I don't recall who it was, might have been a dupe too... Neat looking cards, though their Mantle looks kinda bad. The auto is hard to read, very light color, almost a faded black or dark green. I think it's either 399 or 599, at that price there are a lot nicer pieces you could pick up.

    FWIW-

I have cracked through six boxes already and have found but one Franchise card, un-autographed. Not looking good so far! But I enjoy seeing the names of yesteryear - the rookies that never were, and some decent cards like Thome, Manny and Floyd.

They had a Joe D. from series 1 and a Chuck Khnoblock (however you spell it) 91 score auto inserted in series 2 I believe.
