Kennedy guys - How does planchet chatter affect grade?

Many of the 04 Kennedy halves I have looked through have planchet chatter but are otherwise mark free. How is PCGS treating this? Technically it should not but in the market grading era we are in I can't help but think it does. Experiences?

No that looks like die fatigue. What I am refeing to is often seen around the edges and on the face. Sometimes you will see large marks on the coins because the strike did not abolish a mark from the planchet.

They seem to be very forgiving on Ikes. But I guess that's not really what you asked about, so I probably should have kept my mouth shut.

my experience in grading clad coins (nickel clad) is that chatter such as what you mention will relegate the coin to a grade of no more than 64

I've tried to buy some pcgs ms66 and ms67 Kennedy's from the 90's, and I hated them because of the planchet chatter. Didn't seem to affect the grade, but they looked terrible for a high grade coin.

I don't think I have seen one in that advanced stage of "poor condition" in a mint state coin. That's kinda cool.

Yeah, that's it. It's usually a halo around the circumference but can have other looks
as well. Occasionally the entire coin can be affected and very rarely an otherwise well-
struck specimen can look almost like a matte proof. Collectors and graders are far more
tolerant of this than I am generally. Since it often appears in a sort of pattern, it immitates
the worst kind of damage- - intentional. Generally die polish is well tolerated also and this
    is nearly as distracting.

Ok....the Ike pic is a very good example!! I also have seen numerous examples like this on the Kennedys this year. I haven't submitted more than 2 or 3(only because the rest of the coin was PQ) and they went 65/6. The P's and D's I have in 67 don't have this...or very little of it. I also have seen numerous "wavy" examples, all from the Philly mint. Some are so bad that Motto looks blurry. A common D mint problem is at the base of the neck where it looks like a drop of acid ate away the finish...not sure what caused that but it ruined numerous otherwise gorgeous coins.

Yep that is it on the Ike. Thanks for the input I got my answer - 65/66 tops.

    Cheers,

    Brian
