Input asked for- For all intents and purposes my Registry Set is finished, should I

1- Should I submit the entire set as a unit so that the coins can be compared to one another and have them ALL re graded

in one shot, at one time?

2- Should I not only have them all re-graded but also"Pedigreed"- custom labeled with the Name of the Set on the label?

3- What, if anything, is the next step? Anything I'm not aware of that is supposed to transpire at this point?

Just as 2 out of 4 sent in for regrade DID upgrade, I am convinced, after MANY days of scrutinizing and comparing to many
other examples in other sets, that there are even more truly worthy of upgrade. So, would someone that actually knows what
comes next please share with me their knowledge, experience and wisdom?

I have looked at so many of the coins I collect in all grades, that I feel confident in what I have learned and can spot the
"properties" (PCGS' standards) that make each coin grade as it does. BTW, we happen to be speaking of almost 90 coins!

If you respond, I thank you all in advance as I will be in and out all afternoon.

Is your set in the top 5? If so you can probably get them "Pedigreed" for free.
Whats next? Upgrade until your #1 if you want to play the registry game.
Or just kick back and enjoy looking at your coins.
  • i have the same dillema myself !
though only my lowly 57 Proof set (would be top 3 @ NGC)
Crack em out and send to PCGS (would take giant huevos)
Send em to PCGS for Xover at any grade (slightly smaller)
Send em to PCGS for Xover at same grade only (very small huevos)
Leave em in the NGC holders (no huevos)
If they x one grade down im OK (not buried)
If they X over at the same grade it's CHA CHING ! (would be top 7 @ PCGS)
The set is not for sale,i just want to maximize value for my son when he gets his hands on the set 20 yrs from now.

If you are in a category that allows a Pedigree and are in the top 5 you can have them pedigreed with sequential certificate numbers.

As long as you are doing that, you should have them regraded - a 1 point jump could pay for the additional service.

If you don't plan on keeping them, then there is no point in getting them pedigreed. A Boom quarter is only valuable to Boom

Wow, I'm impressed! I'm putting together a mint set of coins from '61. I have everything but the Silver Dollar and the Double Eagle. Does your set include gold? Any '57 proof set would be a major accomplishment. Are they matched? Are they from an original set or they a put-together set. Legend had a '61 proof set, without gold, for $110k, but it looked great.

    Congratulations!!!

Boom might end up being known as great collector in the future and his Boom pedigree coins might carry a premium.
  • I had no clue that anyone would mistake that for 1857 !
Still in all a 1957 Proof set in 68 CAM,is not simple nor inexpensive to build !
    check the POPS

Boom didn't do so badly. The set began in August 2003 and has been at 100%, currently ranked 12th, for several months now.

Boom managed to cherrypick two 1932-D PCGS 63 Washington Quarters that upgraded to PCGS 64. In fact, he's cherrypicked

virtually every coin in his set and if the 32-Ds are any indication, there will be a lot more that upgrade. Boom comes out of

nowhere and runs with the big dogs meanwhile selling on eBay and maintaining 100% positive feedback! BOOM, in his own

right, is a famous collector already. Thank you very much!imageimage
