Does the current grade count for regrades?

Not to beat a dead horse but I am still unclear if the current grade has any bearing on a coin when it is sent in for regrade? I would crack the coin but I am affraid, it is an MS65 St and an awesome one at that.

Thanks

Yes, it does, but only in the event that the grade somes back lower. The current grade is entered in to the computer before the coin is cracked out for evaluation. Then the original grade is referenced prior to reholdering. This insures that the coin doesn't come back in a lower grade holder unless PCGS decides to downgrade it under the grade guarantee program.

  • It's really crossovers where you have the issue -- there graders do see the grade in the other TPG's holder, and it may influence whether it crosses or not (particularly since they can't see the edge).
