JRocco: That's a very attractive 1890-CC with very few contact marks. Did ANACS grade it an MS-64 or 65?

Hi Stuart, This is in an ANACS 61 DMPL slab. I am looking at this as a future crackout. Here are some more pics left completely untouched (not even color/white balanced) showing the coin off as bad as I can. What do you think?

JRocco: Thanks for providing the additional images of your 1890-CC in ANACS MS-61 DMPL. I feel that you have a good chance at getting at least a one point upgrade to MS-62 and perhaps a shot at MS-63.

It's very difficult to evaluate the reflectivity of the coin from the photos provided, to determine whether or not the coin is likely to grade PL or DMPL, but based upon the photos I'm guessing that it would at least go PL to make it an MS-62 PL or perhaps a shot MS-63 PL.

The contact marks on Liberty's cheek and in the lower fields below around Liberty's portrait (below chin & below cap), as well as the dark spot on the reverse at the "N" of United, may keep the coin an MS-62.

If it were to upgrade to a PCGS MS-63 PL (or DMPL) you would have a significant commercial upside. Good luck with it whatever you decide to do, and please keep us informed of your decision and progress.

  • Nice pics, but I think you need a bit more light from all sides. Looks black on one side and white on the other! image

John: That's a very nice looking 1885-CC image

I've noticed that you can sometimes pick up some very high quality ANACS PL/DMPL CC Morgans at attarctive prices because many of the Morgan Dealers and some colelctors will not even look at them...

I see that as a potential purchasing opportunity for those of us who buy the coin and not the holder...
