Collection display methods

Some time back I requested info about how some in the forum displayed their collections.

Got the expected various answers, none of which really gave me what I was looking for.

What I settled on still isn't what I really want, but it works for me.

Regular 3 ring binders - pages for holding 20 2x2 holders - sheet holders for holding a single page with a few words about each coin.

The 2x2's I ended up using are both regular staple together for the larger coins and self sealing ones - I was convinced that they are safe from harmful chemicals but their 'windows' are not quite as clear as a regular 2x2. They just look much cleaner without the staple and better with the rounded corners.

I wish someone would make a really high quality 2x2.

I use Eagle slab pages in 3 leather binders.

  • Sorry, I couldn't read your message ... my foul language detector said you used a 4 letter word starting with an 's'.

I like it Jim, I use the 2x2's in 20 pocket pages also but without the data sheet - nice touch!

  • I use something similar for coins I find metal detecting.....binder with 20 pocket sheet, but I put the coins in clear Safe-T Flips instead of cardboard holders.

I also print a small label that goes in one half of a flip, while the coin goes in the other. The label is small enough that it usually doesn't obscure any of the coin. Label identifies the coin within, date when found, and mintage. Friction holds the label in place from slipping about.

I like the clear flips for these common and environmentally damaged coins. Easy to switch things around. I can see the coins' edges. These ones are non-PVC, not that'd make much difference for many of these coins. Only drawback to them is the coins tend to rotate about when the binder is carried, so sometimes coins end up displayed upside down.

Same here Jim. I just bought a bunch of pvc free 3 ring pocket pages (20 pockets per) meself. I also use the clear kointainer saflips as well. I really like the data sheet you came up with. I will have to steal itimage

These are pages from my Modern Japanese date collection. I have similar pages for my Japanese Type Set, my Exonumia, and my modified 1-per. The backing sheets are taped to the pocket pages at the binder side, so the hidden dates can be viewed easily. It's a work in progress - when I have finished the backing sheets for all collections, the next step will be to uniformly label the 2x2s with mintages and dates.

Very neat. I'm always interested in personalized ways of displaying coins, although my favourite is Dansco made to order albums.
