Hello, David,
I rarely see the MS-60 grade given in rare date gold, and when I do, I am often surprised. I see more MS-60 coins that are super-PQ AU's than ugly mint state coins. I would like to know your perspective on the grade.

Your observation is correct...MS60 is actually a rare grade. This is because a coin has to be really beat up to be a 60. In many cases there are AU58s that look a lot nicer, but they have some high point wear so they can't be graded Mint State. It's a little flaw in the logic of coin grading, but it seems to be OK with everyone.
