  • Interesting! Looks like a German states coin but with elements reminiscent of Austria, Burgundy, ??.
Can you decipher the legends? The pictures aren't quite clear enough.

    Legends read (I think):

    I.THEOD:CAR.D.G.B????
    UX.B.M.F.C.L.W(?) E or KP.ET.PRIN?

My 1st impression was Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands

Austrian Netherlands (Liege), 2 liards, 1752. KM158, copper. 2nd ed. cat. $10 VG / $15.00 F / $30 VF / $100 EF. Yours is of course only an AG worth two or three bucks, but it was a fun challenge. Thanks. Had me scratchin' my head for a while!

I was thinkin' Bavaria or Pfalz, due to the coat of arms in the top pic. 'Twas mere luck that I stumbled across it in the book, by looking for copper minors in some of the other places. (Most struck their smaller-value coins in silver or billon, or in copper with a drastically different design.)

This has gotta be the first time I ever beat you to an ID, Brad. image

The only other times I've been able to do it were when you were offline. image

    Thanks Rob,

I thought it was Scandanavian when I 1st saw it. It is not listed in the 1st edition of the 18th century Krause image

A guy I work with has been bringing in these coins he got from his dad. This one stumped me. He has a nice group of German Empire minors. I've convinced him to go to the Hartford show with me this Sunday. It will be fun teaching him more about the hobby.
